Yamaha Electronics Corporation, the innovator in home theater and digital audio and video reproduction, today introduced the YAS-71 AIR SURROUND XTREME front surround system ($599.95 MSRP) that provides lifelike surround sound and dynamic bass to all audio and video entertainment options. The system consists of a slim front surround module, which can be neatly mounted underneath a flat panel display or on a shelf without disturbing room aesthetics, and a powered subwoofer, both with stylish, compact designs and glossy black finishes. The YAS-71 offers a simplified and value-laden home theater audio solution to those who do not want to install speakers throughout a room. Yamaha’s exclusive AIR SURROUND XTREME achieves surround sound with clarity and sound imaging unlike any other two-speaker or “virtual surround” system. Yamaha’s proprietary 24kHz HRTF (Head Related Transfer Function) surround technology allows listeners to hear clear dialogue and other sounds from the front, specific sounds from the other channels to the sides and rear, and smooth audio movement all around them. Yamaha’s exclusive Extended Stereo Technology extends the stereo image to each side of the listener, creating an optimum sound field that is much wider and more lifelike. The YAS-71 is fully compatible with Dolby Digital, DTS and Dolby Pro Logic II to provide surround sound from all sources. Although the YAS-71 system is primarily recommended for smaller rooms, it can be effectively used in larger rooms as well. Within the front surround module, two woofers and one tweeter are provided for each channel. The system delivers a full 210 watts of power including 70 watts from right and left channels, and 70 watts from the subwoofer. Users can choose from four surround listening modes (music, movie, sports and game), and between “narrow” and “wide” listening zone modes depending on the room’s size to optimize their audio experience. The YAS-71 is iPod-compatible via the optional Yamaha YDS-11 dock ($99.95 MSRP) and wireless Bluetooth devices such as laptops, cell phones and PDAs via the optional Yamaha YBA-10 Bluetooth wireless audio receiver ($129.95 MSRP). Yamaha’s proprietary Compressed Music Enhancer technology compensates for the lost detail of audio that is compressed during the “ripping” process, recapturing the essence of the original recording. The model also has a built-in FM tuner.
