September 15, 2008

Custom loudspeaker solution manufacturer Triad Speakers, Inc. is tapping CEDIA 2008 to roll-out its first new InRoom subwoofer line in eight years. InRoom DSP Subs The new InRoom DSP Sub series features a complete cosmetic redesign based on the angular lines of the company’s InRoom Omni SE speakers. This striking industrial design features paintable metal grills, and is available in all of Triad’s veneer and paint options, including free custom paint matching. Triad founder and president Larry Pexton observes, “This is the most ambitious new product launch in Triad history. We are combining a new amplifier, with new enclosures, new drivers and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) to substantially strengthen our subwoofer offerings.” All five InRoom DSP Subs include a sophisticated DSP interface to provide custom room correction based on measurements of the subwoofer(s) performance in the client’s location. The DSP Subs include a microphone, which is used to make four measurements in the room after the subwoofer is installed. The measurements are averaged to give the DSP engine a good understanding of the actual performance of the subwoofer in the actual room. The DSP in the subwoofer control applies a signal in real time to optimize the performance of the sub in the room. The installer may use a PC to fine-tune the DSP correction if desired. DSP signal correction allows subs to be placed in the corners of the room, which adds substantially to the overall bass output available. Normally corner placement creates too much bass energy at some frequencies, overpowering the rest of the music, but DSP correction can eliminate most of the ill effects of corner placement, while maintaining some of the added output. In addition to room correction, DSP Subs offer unprecedented set-up flexibility that lets them be more precisely tuned to any system, stereo or multichannel. The five new InRoom DSP Sub models are: Model Driver Power Retail InRoom Mini DSP Sub 8-inch 300 watts $1,000 InRoom Bronze DSP Sub 10-inch 300 watts $1,250 InRoom Silver DSP Sub 12-inch 500 watts $1,650 InRoom Gold DSP Sub 15-inch 1,000 watts $2,100 InRoom Platinum DSP Sub 18-inch 1,600 watts $3,000 New InWall Subwoofers - Including a Flat 4-inch Deep SlimSub Triad is proud to present its first SlimSub, the beginning of a line of 4-inch deep subwoofers that can be retrofitted into existing walls. The InWall Bronze/4 SlimSub uses a proprietary 10-inch woofer, developed for this application. Exclusive to Triad, the InWall Bronze/4 SlimSub uses a new construction bracket (model no. NCB-V) which is only 13.5-inches (w) x 19-iches (h) x 4-inches (d), enabling the sub to fit into more wall spaces. Like all Triad subwoofers, SlimSub comes in a fully engineered, sealed enclosure with bracing and non toxic-foam to absorb sound within the enclosure. SlimSub can be used singly or in pairs, with either the new RackAmp 300 DSP or the more powerful RackAmp 500 DSP. A pair of SlimSubs will provide slightly more bass output than the current and very successful Triad InWall Bronze/6 PowerSub. The InWall Bronze/4 SlimSub MSRP is $500 per enclosure. Also designed for use with the new amplifiers is the new InCeiling/8 Mini Sub enclosure, which is ideal for corner placement, taking advantage of the DSP capabilities of the new amps. Featuring the same long excursion 8-inch woofer as Triad’s InRoom Mini Sub, a pair of corner mounted InCeiling Mini Subs can provide very satisfying bass performance with virtually no impact on the rooms’ décor. The InCeiling/8 Mini Sub enclosure has an MSRP of $500 each. New InRoom OmniSubs Triad is also pleased to announce a new line of cost-effective in-room subwoofers. The three models all include amplifiers. The front of each OmniSub features a digital rotary control and handsome digital display for an intuitive graphic-user interface.
