Meridian Projector Incorporates Exclusive Calibration

And now that the company’s latest 1080p, three-chip D-ILA model, the MF10, features exclusive new calibration, it is certain to further enhance their already enviable reputation and strengthen market share. The key to the MF10’s incomparable video quality is a synergy of state-of-the-art hardware with exclusive calibration software and routines. Using access tools developed exclusively for Meridian by the inventors of D-ILA, and with a calibration process developed by renowned industry expert William Phelps, the MF10’s setup and calibration routines are able to unlock the full potential of this remarkable projector—in particular, its ability to calibrate individual Red, Green, and Blue color “look-up tables” (LUTs). This is where the rubber meets the road in determining the exact color levels of each individual pixel at every brightness level. Subjecting each individual MF10 to this lengthy process in a dedicated calibration laboratory at their company headquarters and manufacturing centre near Cambridge, UK, Meridian ensures that every projector performs to the same consistently high standard, which in turns guarantees outstanding video performance in any installation. Based on an all-new, 0.7-inch D-ILA device, the MF10’s refined new optical package delivers an important reduction in stray light, producing industry-best black levels (in excess of 30,000:1 native contrast ratio) without the use of a servo iris. This means powerfully stunning blacks and superbly dynamic images with no sacrifice in light output—or in the MF10’s remarkable shadow detail. The result: rich, film-like textures and depth that create an entirely involving, cinematic experience. Another key to the MF10’s strength is its exceptionally accurate, 16-element, all-glass lens. This ensures sharp, fully focused images across the entire screen, from edge to edge and from top to bottom. Its 2x zoom delivers a large, bright image even in smaller environments with curtailed throw-distance dimensions, delivering image sizes from 60 to 200 inches. Like Meridian’s MF1 projector, the MF10 features an optional 2.35:1 (Cinemascope®) conversion kit. While video performance is indisputably the MF10’s key feature, the Meridian projector also incorporates numerous intelligent design touches. An extremely low-noise cooling system ensures quiet installations, with both intake and exhaust located on the front panel. This makes it practical to locate the projector very close to the rear wall, enabling a tidy room layout and maximizing throw distance. Lens shifts of 80% horizontal and 34% vertical further enhance design and installation adaptability, while the MF10’s side-access lamp compartment makes renewal simple even for ceiling-mount installations. While the MF10 incorporates multiple video inputs and onboard 1080p scaling, it can deliver its best performance when used with a more powerful outboard scaling component. The ideal choice, also available exclusively from Meridian, is the DVP1080MF Digital Video Processor, which outputs 1080p signals from virtually any video source. This compact, single-rack-space design incorporates Faroudja’s unique TrueLife® 12-step detail processing and DCDi motion-adaptive deinterlacing, for unsurpassed video-signal quality via its HDCP-compatible DVI-D output. The DVP1080MF incorporates flexible aspect-ratio control and image-shift options, as well as auto-detection of high-definition and standard-def input signals, and includes an internal test-pattern generator. An alternative processor model, the DVP1080HD, includes all the facilities of the DVP1080MF with the addition of multiple progressive analog video outputs, including RGBHV, Component, RGBS, and RGsB. All Meridian projectors and video processors are supplied with dedicated remote controllers, and all incorporate a full range of automation facilities, including infrared and RS-232 control ports and screen-trigger outputs, permitting easy integration into even the most sophisticated home-cinema or media-room installation.
