Demonstrating ongoing industry support and adoption of its unparalleled ActiveConnect™ solution, Gennum Corporation (TSX:GND) today announced that Tributaries® Cable, a leading supplier of high-value, high-performance cabling and accessories for custom home audio and home-theater installation, has deployed a new extender based on the ActiveConnect solution. Fully compatible with the latest HDMI 1.3 standard, the Tributaries HXMini5 extender can reliably transport high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) video with audio more than 300 feet with no loss of video or AV quality. The new solution is on display this week at the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) EXPO, September 4-7, at the Colorado Convention Center (Denver, CO) in the Tributaries Booth #614. "Our customers demand the highest quality connectivity solutions, and we in turn demand the highest quality from our suppliers," said Mary Victor, Executive Vice President of Tributaries. "As the only company to deliver a receiver/transmitter product capable of streaming HDMI signals at these unprecedented distances with no performance degradation, Gennum has exceeded our stringent requirements and enables us to deliver the full benefits of HDMI 1.3 to customers." "Consumers and professional installers need long-reach cable solutions capable of matching the full HD performance of their high-end multimedia products such as displays, digital televisions and computers," said Amit Thakar, Product Line Manager, Consumer Multimedia, Analog and Mixed-Signal Products Group, Gennum Corporation. "The Gennum ActiveConnect solution enables users to experience Deep Color and full 1080p resolution at distances never before thought possible. In addition, installers can future-proof their environments and ensure that installations are ready for next-generation hardware based on the HDMI 1.3 standard." About Tributaries HXMini5 Extender The two-piece HXMini5 extender features a compact powered transmitter (a 6v power supply is included) and an equally compact receiver module. Each furnishes a single HDMI port for connection to a source such as a set-top box or disc player (transmitter), and to a destination such as an HDTV set, HDMI switcher, or AV processor or receiver. The modules are linked by five color-coded coaxial lines; typically, standard RG-6 cabling or structured coax bundles, which connect to receiver and transmitter via standard BNC terminals. In combination with the HXMini5's active electronics, this wide-bandwidth interconnection supports hi-def 1080p/60 Hz HDMI signals over distances up to 300 feet, and 120 Hz 1080p up to 180 feet, and can even support 1440p signals in professional or future environments.
