NAD Introduces Unique Modular Design Construction To Growing Family Of AV Components

Flexible, Upgradeable, Open-Architecture MDC Approach Extends Product Life, Benefiting Consumers and Dealers [The following is a release from NAD Electronics]

September 19, 2008

NAD Electronics, the highly regarded manufacturer of high-performance audio/video components, introduced its Modular Design Construction (MDC) to an expanded series of audio and audio/video components, at CEDIA EXPO ’08. Modular Design Construction is a new and unique mechanical design architecture developed exclusively by NAD that enhances its ability to introduce high-performance, high-value products that improve performance and simplify service. At the same time, MDC-enhanced products are flexible, easily upgraded and protected against early obsolescence. The rapid advance of home entertainment technologies has left many consumers wondering whether or when they should risk investing in premium audio/video systems. Too often, consumers purchase a state-of-the-art product only to feel it has become ‘obsolete’ in less than a year. The pressure, on the industry as well as consumers, to keep up with new digital formats has resulted in shorter life cycles for products rushed to market to meet the demand for state-of-the art models. NAD’s Modular Design Construction uniquely addresses these issues. “MDC’s advantages are clear, for both consumers and our dealers,” said NAD Director of Product Development Greg Stidsen. “Consumers have the comfort of knowing their investments will not become prematurely obsolete, and dealers know they can promote MDC as an important benefit.” NAD introduced MDC in a series of audio/video receivers and a tuner-preamp-processor launched earlier this year. The models were notable in part for their unique ability to be affordably updated for both audio and video functions as new technology becomes available.  In the past, consumers would have had to purchase entirely new AVRs to get the latest innovations. Now with MDC, they can have their dealers add the latest technology quickly and easily, and for a fraction of the cost of replacing the entire component.  MDC is also an environmentally sensitive approach, as it extends by many years the lives of A/V components. The cornerstone of the design are six easily removable modules. The modules maintain all input and output connectivity and include circuitry for Digital Video, Digital Audio, HD Analog Video, SD Analog Video, Analog Audio Inputs, and Analog Audio Outputs. NAD’s expanding family of MDC-equipped products were available to be seen at Booth 900, Denver Convention Center, during CEDIA.
