AudioQuest will be demonstrating a highly anticipated connector that allows field termination of HDMI cables on-site to eager custom installation and design professionals at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show. Field termination of HDMI cables has been unavailable to installers to date. The complexity of the cable design has been a barrier to creating an approach that is acceptable. “We are pleased to have the opportunity to deliver one of the items that are on top of the installer/integrator’s wish list,” said William Low, CEO and founder. “For installers, the ability to field-terminate HDMI cables opens the opportunity for time savings as well as better cable management.” The field terminated connectors feature as 3-piece internal design that incorporates bayonet connections to manage the 19 conductors that offer a performance advantage over soldered or crimped connectors. A tool very similar to a compression tool is used to finish the termination securely. “The HDMI termination may never be as simple as our ITC coaxial connectors,” continued Low. “However, the convenience of being able to pull HDMI cables through tight portals as well as to make the cable exactly the right length for the job offer a huge advantage.” AudioQuest will in The Venetian during CES 2009 on the 31st floor, suites 139 &140. Availability of the new connector is slated for first quarter of this year.
