Monitor Audio Debuts The New Radius R-One-HD All In One Soundbar

[The following is a release from Monitor Audio

The R-One-HD is a completely new design for
Monitor Audio inspired by the popularity of
single-cabinet front L-C-R theater solutions. The
R-One-HD integrates left, center, and right
channels in one cabinet. Each channel has a
dedicated braced compartment and individually
specified crossovers. The center channel
section features twin 4-inch MMPII bass drivers
and a 1-inch C-CAM gold dome tweeter. The left
and right channel sections house single 4-inch MMPII bass drivers and 1-inch C-CAM gold dome tweeters. The R-
One-HD’s 39 3⁄4-inch length, 5-inch height, and shallow depth make it perfect for placement above or below wall-
mounted flat-panel video displays where left and right front speaker placement is not desired. Add your choice of
Radius HD powered subwoofer and Radius HD satellite speakers for rear surround channels to create a discreet,
high-performance theater system. The R-One-HD is available in piano lacquer Black, Silver, and White finishes.
MSRP: $800

The original compact ‘audiophile’ sub/sat speaker range gets a makeover

The new Monitor Audio Radius HD range provides more style, practicality, and performance than its acclaimed
forerunner: the original Radius series. Radius HD is a new decor-matching range of ultra-compact satellite
loudspeakers, plasma on-wall loudspeakers, floor standing loudspeakers, and cosmetically matched powered
subwoofers. So successful were the Radius originals that it’s taken Monitor Audio five years to improve them! But
with sharp new styling and driver technology, more versatile mounting brackets, new luxurious finishes, and even
better performance, Radius HD marks a comprehensive upgrade of a classic design.

Other Radius HD Models

R45HD
The tiny R45HD loudspeaker is the perfect satellite speaker for front left-center-right and rear surround theater
applications for small rooms. Its secret is a combination of a 3-inch MMPII cone bass driver and rear-firing 3⁄4-inch
C-CAM gold dome tweeter, which spreads and magnifies the sound around the room to create a wide,
encompassing surround sound effect. Designed to dovetail with a R360HD or R370HD powered subwoofer, and
available in the Radius HD range of real wood veneers and piano lacquer finishes, the R45HD will blend perfectly
with your décor in an ultra-discreet sub/sat two-channel, multi-channel audio, or theater system. A high quality,
articulating die-cast bracket is provided for wall mounting. The optional RHD Floor Stand is available in Black or
White finishes for floor positions.

R90HD
The R90HD is a world-class micro monitor. Extreme enclosure rigidity and leading edge drive unit technology are
combined to produce clarity, dynamics, and imaging characteristics that are unparalleled in a speaker of this size.
The R90HD features a 4-inch MMPII bass driver and a 1-inch C-CAM gold dome tweeter. The R90HD may be used
in distributed music applications or as part of a multi-channel theater as a front main or surround speaker combined
with a R360HD or R370HD powered subwoofer. The R90HD has the same positioning versatility as the R45HD
with its articulating die-cast wall-mounting bracket. The optional RHD Floor Stand is available in Black or White
finishes for floor positions. The R90HD is available in the Radius HD range of real wood veneers and piano lacquer
finishes.
R180HD
If you can trade a little space for more bass and system output, the R180HD offers the same irresistible blend of
virtues and drive units as the R90HD but in a larger cabinet. The R180HD can be installed vertically as a main,
side, or rear speaker, or horizontally as a center channel speaker using the supplied low-profile wall bracket. Its
enhanced bass and output performance makes it ideal for discreet music applications around the home. Combined
with a R360HD or R370HD subwoofer, the R180HD will form part of a powerful stereo or multi-channel home
theater system. The R180HD is available in the Radius HD range of real wood veneers and piano lacquer finishes.

R225HD
The slender R225HD’s contoured profile and 24-inch height is designed to match the aesthetic of today’s popular
40 to 50-inch flat-panel video displays. When used as a center channel or main speaker, its acoustic design of twin
4-inch MMPII bass drivers and 1-inch C-CAM gold dome tweeter provides the signature accuracy of Monitor
Audio’s reference speakers. Its impressive bass performance can be further extended with the addition of a Radius
HD powered subwoofer. Use it with the R360HD or R370HD subwoofer to create a compact, perfectly matched yet
sonically exhilarating audio/video speaker system. Supplied with a low-profile bracket for horizontal or vertical wall
mounting, the R225HD complements its environment for the perfect balance of style and performance. The
R225HD is available in the Radius HD range of real wood veneers and piano lacquer finishes.

R250HD
The elegant R250HD’s contoured profile and 30-inch height is designed to match the aesthetic of today’s popular
50 to 60-inch flat-panel video displays. It can be mounted vertically or horizontally around wall-mounted TVs with
the supplied low-profile bracket. The R250HD features twin 4-inch MMPII bass drivers and a 1-inch C-CAM gold
dome tweeter providing bass right down to 50 Hz making it a perfect choice as a center, main, side, or rear speaker
in multi-channel music and theater applications. The R250HD is available in the Radius HD range of real wood
veneers and piano lacquer finishes.

HD’s 39 3⁄4-inch length, 5-inch height, and shallow depth make it perfect for placement above or below wall-
mounted flat-panel video displays where left and right front speaker placement is not desired. Add your choice of
Radius HD powered subwoofer and Radius HD satellite speakers for rear surround channels to create a discreet,
high-performance theater system. The R-One-HD is available in piano lacquer Black, Silver, and White finishes.

R270HD
The R270HD is a slim floor standing loudspeaker designed for genuine full-range performance in serious two-
channel music and multi-channel theater systems. High performance sound from twin 4-inch MMPII bass drivers
and a 1-inch C-CAM gold dome tweeter, combined with a svelte profile provides the opportunity to enjoy great
sound and discreet design all in one package. Use the voice-matched R225HD or larger R250HD as the center
channel speaker and the R370HD powered subwoofer to complement the R270HD in theater applications. Cable
terminals are located on the back of the integral plinth avoiding unsightly trailing wires. The R270HD is available in
the Radius HD range of real wood veneers and piano lacquer finishes.

R360HD
This super-compact powered subwoofer has the speed, subtlety, and pitch accuracy to enhance the highest quality
music reproduction, but it can also deliver the power and slam demanded by movie soundtracks by virtue of its
downward-firing 8-inch driver, controlled by a powerful built-in 100-watt amplifier. The R360HD has a variable
crossover frequency control from 40Hz-180Hz, 0-180 degree phase switch, stereo and LFE RCA inputs, silicone
rubber anti-resonance feet, and two EQ settings for music or video program optimization. Cosmetically and
sonically matched to all Radius HD full-range loudspeakers and available in the full range of real wood veneers and
piano lacquer finishes, the R360HD is the perfect complement to any Radius HD music or theater system.

R370HD
The R370HD is our premium powered subwoofer option for Radius HD music or theater systems. Its 10-inch C-
CAM down-firing driver, powered by a 250W (RMS) amplifier, will extend the reach of the Radius HD systems down
to 28 Hz with force and agility. The R370HD’s lowest frequencies are controlled so well that even subtle effects are
precisely defined, enhancing the listening experience with bass you can feel as well as hear. The R370HD is
equipped with a top-mounted control panel for easy access to volume and EQ settings (one for video and one for
music), 12V trigger input for power on/standby control from an AV amplifier, variable crossover control from 40Hz-
120Hz, and stereo and LFE RCA inputs and link outputs. The R370HD is available in the Radius HD range of real
wood veneers and piano lacquer finishes.

Technical features

New C-CAM Tweeters
Custom designed tweeters for the new Radius HD range now extend system response beyond 35 KHz. This
ensures that the wide frequency bandwidth of High Definition music and cinema formats can be replayed faithfully.
The tweeter’s new dome profile and surround geometry have been developed using advanced modeling tools to
provide the optimum qualities for accurate sound reproduction. The gold dome itself is formed from our trademark
C-CAM material being only 30uM (0.03mm/ 0.0012”) thick, and weighing a fraction of a gram. This lightweight
material possesses ultimate strength when formed into the dome shape and treated with the ceramic coating
process. The C-CAM gold dome is extremely light, strong, and possesses the ideal characteristic properties to
enable the tweeter to work right up to 35 kHz before any sign of ‘break-up’ occurs.

New MMPII Bass Drivers
The Radius HD bass drivers are completely new designs. With the aid of new design and simulation tools we’ve
achieved higher sensitivity and increased magnetic linearity. A newly shaped T-section pole and focused magnetic
gap have produced better linearity and lower distortion, resulting in fast, punchy bass. All drivers are dedicated and
model specific, with each model in the Radius HD series being designed and voiced individually.

Crossovers
New PCB layouts have been designed to keep signal paths as short as possible. Thicker copper tracks have been
employed to reduce losses. Component layout has been optimized to make sure that no interaction can take place
between the components themselves, providing a clearer sound and better signal separation. Where possible, air
core inductors have been used for low signal distortion and a faster response to transients.

Cabinets
Improved cabinet damping has reduced cabinet resonance and ‘time smearing’ effects. Our research led us to a
combination of polyurethane foam and a polyester fiber material, which provided excellent damping of rear waves,
and a cleaner, more open sound. Anti-Resonance Composite (ARC®), originally developed for the baffles of Monitor
Audio’s flagship Platinum range, is now utilized in Radius HD front baffles. ARC is a cast thermo-set polymer
loaded with minerals to provide very inert, optimally damped materials. ARC reduces the stiffness of the driver
mounting area, preventing unwanted vibrations from being transferred to the cabinet.

Reason #102 Why Readers Love Widescreen Review:

I just recently started a home theatre business called Celestial Audio Video. Widescreen Review plays an important part for many reasons. Not only can I keep up with new trends and new technologies, I can understand better, and I am able to also explain to customers about forth-coming products. The in-depth and detail of your articles are not only appreciated but needed. In short, on a professional level your publication is a must-read every month. On a personal level, I enjoy the DVD reviews, the monthly feedback, and editor's couch. I would also like to see more reviews on DVD concerts. As far as I'm concerned, your magazine is top notch for home theatre, unsurpassed by none and stands in a class by itself. A true reference quality publication.
