Just over two years ago, Danish loudspeaker specialist Dynaudio unveiled a limited-edition jubilee loudspeaker to commemorate the company's 30th anniversary: the Sapphire. After completing the elaborate individual production run, the final units of the Sapphire are now being delivered. Dynaudio would like to express its gratitude for the unique success of this model and is about to auction the very last pair, benefitting a most deserving cause.
The Sapphire "No. 1000" comes finished in a most exclusive blue version: Sapphire-blue stained bird’s eye maple natural wood veneer, refined with a splendid clear piano lacquer. In cooperation with the Danish auctioneer Lauritz, the complete proceeds of the auction will go to benefit the non-profit organization "Doctors Without Borders".
Limited to a global production run of 1,000 pairs, the Sapphire has already become a highly demanded collectible. Each pair of speakers is ornamented by a corresponding pair/serial number (out of 1,000) engraved on a metal plate on the back of the speaker. It a special pleasure and sense of pride for Dynaudio to witness the tremendous success of this most special product. In response to the demand from music and hi-fi fans, Dynaudio decided to offer the final 30 pairs of this exceptionally designed loudspeaker in an equally exceptional finish: piano lacquer Sapphire-blue.
For this special edition, the Dynaudio cabinet factory in Vejle, Denmark stained the fine real wood veneer of the Sapphire-blue colour in a special procedure, further refining the finish afterwards with clear piano lacquer. As with the exquisite "Ivory", "Amber", "Bordeaux" and "Mocca" stained clear-lacquer bird's eye maple finishes and Dynaudio's new high-gloss white and high-gloss black lacquer finishes offered on this model, the outstanding Sapphire-blue underlines the exceptional cabinet design: twelve distinct surface planes and twenty-four adjoining lines reveal new facets every time.
During the auction, the Sapphire "No. 1000" will be on display in Lauritz’s showroom in Hamburg,
Germany. The international auction begins on Wednesday, May 12th, 2010 and ends on Saturday, May 22nd, 2010 at 2:00 PM MEST. In presenting Sapphire pair "No. 1,000/1,000", another chapter in hi-fi history will be completed and another landmark loudspeaker will be added to the legacy of Dynaudio.
