When AVFoundry introduced the VideoForge video test pattern generator last year, it promised that because the patterns are generated in software rather than dedicated logic circuits, the generator would be infinitely upgradable and extendable. Today AVFoundry announced that the extensibility reaches to third parties. The Pattern Store allows pattern developers to deploy test patterns on AVFoundry’s VideoForge securely and inexpensively. “We’re trying to make it as easy for pattern developers to sell patterns as it is for musicians to put their songs on iTunes,” explained Eric Hernes, AVFoundry’s President. In the past, pattern developers discovered that the process of mastering their content onto media such as a Blu-ray Disc was more expensive and time-consuming than creating the patterns in the first place. With the Pattern Store, developers can concentrate on innovative pattern development and avoid the delay and expense of media production. The upcoming firmware release for the VideoForge adds support for secure patterns. Developers also benefit from additional security for their intellectual property. “A pattern developer can know that the patterns will only run on one specific VideoForge, and a customer can’t give them to his friends,” explains Hernes. Developers interested in selling their patterns through AVFoundry should send requests directly through the Web site: www.avfoundry.com/contact.php. Hernes said that AVFoundry is already working with leading pattern developers, and announcements of their offerings are expected in April.
