James Cameron Forms 3D Venture For ALL Entertainment

April 12, 2011

Director James Cameron on Monday teamed up with Cinematographer Vince Pace to launch the Cameron-Pace Group (CPG) , which will push for the adoption of 3D in everything from movies and TV shows to sports and advertising. The announcement was made at the 2011 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Convention in Las Vegas. CPG will be the industry advocate for 3D technologies, practices, and creative tools, the duo announced. They also want to develop the "gold standard" for 3D. CPG is a respected worldwide innovator and leader in 3D technology, such as FUSION 3D and SLATE2SCREENTM 3D production services, with more than 25 global feature productions and 40 live sports broadcasts completed to date. CPG's projects have resulted in more than $4.7 billion of box office receipts. "Our goal is to banish all the perceived and actual barriers to entry that are currently holding back producers, studios and networks from embracing their 3D future," Cameron said. "We are dedicated to building a global brand that is synonymous with high quality 3D and spans multiple channels, from features to episodic television, and changes the boundaries of what is understood to be 3D material." Pace promised to deliver a number of 3D tools, including Slate2Screen 3D production services and educational workshops for industry professionals in Fusion 3D. Cameron is the Oscar-winning director of the 3D epic "Avatar." Upcoming 3D efforts for CPG include "Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," "Transformers: Dark Of The Moon," "The Three Musketeers," "Hugo Cabret," "Cirque du Soleil," "Life Of Pi," "Final Destination 5," "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island," "Shark Night 3D," and "47 Ronin." Previous projects include "Sanctum," TRON: Legacy," "Resident Evil: Afterlife," "Step Up 3D," "Journey To The Center Of The Earth," "Yogi Bear," "Spy Kids 3D: Game Over," "The Adventures Of Shark Boy And Lava Girl," "Aliens Of The Deep IMAX 3D," "Ghosts Of The Abyss IMAX 3D," and "Wild Ocean 3D." Director Martin Scorsese commented on the announcement: "To direct a picture in 3D you must also design and shoot it in 3D. There is simply no substitute for having the ability to view every scene and every setup with the added emotional dimension of depth that CAMERON - PACE Group's FUSION 3D system afforded me. I couldn't imagine directing "The Invention Of Hugo Cabret" without it." Cameron said that FUSION 3D is all about complementing the storytelling of filmmaking. Vince Pace added, "By supporting the filmmaker, we go beyond the dimension of simply renting a rig and enter into the philosophy of successful 3D entertainment by supporting the entire SLATE2SCREEN™ process.” According to Cameron, CPG's expansion will include proven solutions for 3D productions worldwide including industry-wide 3D advocacy, driving innovations in technology, and delivering products, services and creative tools for filmmakers and broadcasters in ways never addressed or witnessed before.
