In recognition of the rapid pace of technological advancement and in an effort to stay ahead of the evolutionary curve and remain the premier manufacturer of precision projection screen technology in the market, Stewart Filmscreen® announces the appointment of Mark Robinson to the newly created position of Vice President of Technology. In this position, Mark will lead the study and application of emerging technologies in the development of new products and services, the improvement of existing products, and the advancement of the role of the projection screen in innovative residential, commercial and, in particular, theme park, broadcast, and simulation applications. Mark’s appointment to this role is an acknowledgement of his outstanding contributions to Stewart Filmscreen to date, and his standing as one of the true thought leaders within the industry. Stewart’s success is built upon the proposition that there is a perfect screen for every application, and Mark has been a big part of the Stewart story. Mark joined Stewart Filmscreen in 1985 making glass and acrylic rear projection screens. He was promoted to Director of Manufacturing in 2002 to supervise over the company’s next phase of expansion. “Mark is very smart, was mentored by my father Patrick Stewart before he retired and is well respected in the theme park and broadcast industry,” says Grant Stewart, President/CEO of Stewart Filmscreen. “Mark recently received a Patent for his work on the new ‘Daily Dual’ that deploys a matte HD screen over a silver 3D screen in the same frame structure. This allows post production facilities to perform 2D color timing or polarized passive 3D stereography work in the same suite, without any downtime for changing screens. Mark also has an excellent eye for the technical detail that is required to produce the world’s finest custom projection screen installations. Mark has also led the projection screen formulation team in the development of award winning screens such as FireHawk®, Silver 5D™, and our brand new Reflections Active 3D series.” Mark will assume his new role immediately. “We are extremely excited that Mark will be taking this post. I can’t think of a better candidate for the job,” says Jeffrey L. Thompson, COO of Stewart Filmscreen. “Stewart has a proud legacy of manufacturing the very best product in the industry, starting in 1947 when the company began making screens for the movie industry. 65 years and two Academy Awards (for Science and Technology) later, it is imperative that we continue to focus on what made this company what it is today. However, with further advancements in science and technology, it is equally important that the company understands its role in an ever changing industry, and can lead the type of forward-thinking initiatives that assure we will remain the market leader and that our products and services will continue to meet the needs of the market.” Both Stewart and Thompson agree that “with Mark in this role, I am very confident that our future is in the very best of hands.”
