XPAND 3D Supports Barco With Infinity 3D Glasses For Laser Light Technology Demo At CinemaCon 2012

The active XPAND Infinity 3D glasses will be used in combination with Barco’s 4K laser technology, producing unprecedented levels of brightness and color saturation.

In the first demonstration of its kind, XPAND 3D is supporting Barco with its Infinity 3D glasses and 3D cinema system for a High Frame Rate 3D laser light technology demonstration at CinemaCon 2012 in Las Vegas. The event titled, “Laser Light Technology: The New Frontier in Screen Brightness”, will take place Wednesday, April 25 at 8:45 a.m. at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace and is open to all CinemaCon attendees.

The technology demonstration will feature XPAND Infinity active 3D glasses used in combination with Barco’s prototype 4K laser projection technology.

XPAND 3D active cinema systems and glasses are optimized to work with laser projectors, making them the ideal technology for speckle-free laser projection. The high-end XPAND Infinity 3D glasses provide the best 3D images in the industry.

The laser light technology demonstration will also include the display of HFR (High Frame Rate) content. All new XPAND 3D cinema solutions are HFR compatible.

Moderating the technical demonstration will be Todd Hoddick, Vice President, Entertainment Division, North America for Barco.

The event will also include a panel discussion moderated by Jerry Pierce, Chairman of Inter-Society’s Digital Cinema Forum. Panel members include:

· Wim Buyens: Senior Vice President, Entertainment Division, Barco

· John McDonald: Chairman, NATO Technology Committee and Executive Vice President, US Operations, AMC Theatres

· Pete Lude: Senior VP, Solutions Engineering, Sony Digital Cinema Solutions

· Michael Esch: Senior Director-Entertainment Solutions, Christie

· Jim Reisteter: General Manager, Digital Cinema Division, NEC Display Solutions of America

“Laser projection represents the future of cinema projection and the demonstration at CinemaCon will show exhibitors the best 3D ever seen,” said Maria Costeira, CEO of XPAND 3D. “We are thrilled to support Barco for this event, as we are confident it will represent a watershed moment in the evolution of 3D technology!”

“When CinemaCon asked us to project our prototype laser on a giant screen in the Colosseum, we were honored to show High Frame Rates, 3D, 4K and other capabilities at CinemaCon 2012,” commented Todd Hoddick, VP Entertainment for Barco North America. “Currently, our prototype can achieve 55,000 lumens of despeckled laser light from a single projector. While the industry still has a ways to go before government regulations and pricing make laser commercially viable, Barco will be ready when the time comes.”
