K2 Communications announced it is working with 3D producer Passmorelab to provide 3D post-production for Fighter Pilot 3D: Operation Red Flag which will be released in 4K3D in June 2013. The 48-minute museum film presented by Boeing provides audiences with an ultra-realistic thrill ride as Captain John “Otter” Stratton arrives at the Red Flag training base along with hundreds of other pilots and ground crews from allied international forces. The film features fighter jets from around the world (such as the American F-15 Strike Eagles, German Tornados, Israeli F-16’s, British Harrier Jump Jets and Canadian F-18 Hornets) and contains several breathtaking flight sequences. “During early test screenings audiences were blown away by the 3D aerial maneuvers.” Said Michael Williams Director of Sales and Distribution for Passmorelab. “Audiences will be amazed by the stunning 3D imagery that actually draws viewers into the fighter pilot experience.” Directed by Stephen Low, the film’s 2D release generated world box office revenue of $33 million at more than 100 museums. This summer will be the first time the re-mastered film will be available in 4K3D (which provides twice the horizontal and vertical resolution of standard theatrical projection) and HD3D. "Fighter jets are amazing aircraft and this film goes all out with a full scale simulated war. Cockpit and underwing cameras make the viewer feel like they are on-board and in battle, “ said Greg Passmore, President of Passmorelab. “I believe the combination of UltraHD and 3D is destined to bring this film into the deep and off-the-screen experience it should be. I want our 3D work to create a whole body experience for the audience. Originally produced for IMAX, we are creating UltraHD-3D versions for both the giant screen and more conventional cinemas." “What I love about this film is that it is all real; no Hollywood CGI, no fake special effects. It is raw and beautifully filmed with hundreds of aircraft, dogfights, high speed aerials and tons of pyrotechnics,” added Passmore. “It accomplishes something Hollywood cannot, the documentation of real life multinational warfare using real planes, real people and billions of dollars of real assets.” Mark Kresser of K2 Communications stated, "Following the hugely successful 2D release of Fighter Pilot, K2 is responding to public demand to provide this classic, adrenaline-packed real-life documentary in stunning 3D. Following a detailed review process, K2 selected Passmorelab to handle the 3D post-production. Passmorelab's 3D capabilities are unparalleled, and we are thrilled to be working with them." K2 Communications and Passmorelab will be licensing Fighter Pilot 3D: Operation Red Flag during MIPTV 2013 on April 8-11, 2013 at Cannes, France. The film will be released worldwide in June 2013.
