Samsung 2015 SUHD And UHD Model Pricing

Samsung Electronics has officially unveiled pricing and specific model details for the 2015 TV lineup that I first wrote about in our 2015 CES report in Issue 195, March. Samsung's premium "SUHD" labeled TVs, mostly curved are all 4K capable using Samsung's flavor of quantum dots -- or what Samsung calls "proprietary Cadmium-free nano-crystal technology." These new  SUHD TVs will be powered by its Tizen operating system. SUHD TVs are basically LCD TVs supercharged with the quantum dots.

SUHD Model Pricing

As expected, SUHD TVs are expensive. Amazon has priced the 65-inch JS9500 at $6,000 and the least-expensive model, the 55-inch JS8500 at $3,000.

Additionally, the 88-inch JS9500 is priced at $23,000.

The announced pricing is UPP (universal pricing plan), which are set by the manufacturer. There is little room for further discounts at retail. The main difference between the JS9500 and the step-down SUHD sets is in their types of local dimming. The JS9500 features a full-array, while the JS9000 and JS8500 use edge-lit local dimming.

Samsung 4K TVs Sans SUHDs

Samsung confirmed pricing on its other 4K/UHD TVs introduced today that don't merit the "S" designation. These UHD TVs are absent Samsung’s nanocrystal technology with their features decreasing with lower pricing. The UNJU7100 series is the least-expensive flat screen sets to offer actual local dimming.
