Dolby Showcases End-to-End Innovation For Cinema At CinemaCon 2015

CinemaCon highlights: Colosseum outfitted with Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision; Dolby Atmos surpasses 1,000 screens installed or committed and 275 titles announced

Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE:DLB) returns to CinemaCon® 2015 (Caesars Palace®, Milano Ballroom III) next week to showcase a full range of integrated, end-to-end postproduction, audio, and imaging solutions.

At CinemaCon, Dolby will be showcasing Dolby Atmos® and Dolby VisionTM technologies as part of the growing momentum and industry support for these state-of-the-art solutions that bring superior sight and sound capabilities. CinemaCon attendees will be able to experience Dolby Vision, accompanied by Dolby Atmos sound, in the Colosseum at Caesars Palace with the debut screening of Disney•Pixar’s Inside Out. In addition, the presentation will also feature a preview clip of Disney’s Tomorrowland in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. As previously announced, Disney’sTomorrowland and Disney•Pixar’s Inside Out will be the first Dolby Vision titles to be shown at Dolby Cinema™ locations around the globe, along with Disney’s The Jungle Book, due out in 2016.

Dolby Atmos Surpasses 1,000 Screens Installed or Committed and 275-Title Milestone

Today also marks another significant milestone for Dolby, as more than 1,000 screens worldwide have been installed or committed to be equipped with Dolby Atmos. This milestone follows the recent announcement of AMC Theatres and Dolby collaborating to bring up to 100 Dolby CinemaTMat AMC Prime® locations to the United States by 2024. Dolby Cinema is a premium cinema offering for exhibitors and moviegoers that combines spectacular image and sound technologies with inspired design to make every visit a completely captivating cinematic event.

Dolby today revealed 20 new titles scheduled to be mixed and released in Dolby Atmos, increasing the total number of announced Dolby Atmos titles to more than 275. New Dolby Atmos titles are currently scheduled from all the major studios including Lionsgate, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal Pictures, The Walt Disney Studios, and Warner Bros.

Dolby Atmos Cinema Processor CP850 Product Line—Choose the Right Processor for Your Cinema

The Dolby Atmos Cinema Processor CP850 product line offers exhibitors a choice of advanced digital cinema audio solutions. Whether equipping a cinema for an immersive Dolby Atmos audio experience now or in need of a flexible processor that can be upgraded to deliver a full Dolby Atmos experience, there is a Dolby CP850 processor that’s ideal for all needs. The CP850 Base will play back traditional Dolby® Surround 7.1 and 5.1 formats, as well as render select Dolby Atmos titles to a Dolby Surround 7.1 configuration. The CP850 Base includes the same advanced equalization and other audio features as the full Dolby Atmos Cinema Processor CP850. The CP850 Base does not require Dolby Commissioning Service. Dolby Atmos marketing support is exclusive to theatres with the full Dolby Atmos Cinema Processor CP850.

Dolby Integrated Media Server IMS2000—Speed You Can Count On

The Dolby Integrated Media Server IMS2000 is a DCI-compliant single-board solution that delivers faster ingest speeds, simplifying operations to save time and money. Combining Dolby and Doremi technologies, the Dolby IMS2000 offers cost-effective reliability proven on more than 80,000 screens worldwide, plus the flexibility needed for today’s cinemas. Key features include faster-than-real-time ingest (up to 500 Mbps) via USB 3.0, Ethernet, or eSATA; support for Dolby Atmos; HDMI® 4K input up to 30 frames per second (fps); 3D high frame rate at 30 fps and 48 fps; on-board RAID storage and external NAS support for increased capacity; web-based user interface; compatibility with the Dolby Theatre Management System (TMS) or any TMS that supports Dolby products; and dual-projector support.

Dolby Fidelio

Dolby Fidelio is a wireless audio system that delivers descriptive narration for the visually impaired (VI soundtrack) and amplified sound for the hearing impaired (HI soundtrack) in theatres. The system consists of a compact audio receiver with a plug-in headset, an audio transmitter that connects to any server via audio and USB connections, and a charging station that accommodates 10 receivers. Auditorium and channel (HI or VI) assignment can be easily configured through a touch-screen tablet.

Dolby CaptiView

Dolby CaptiView is a personal in-theatre closed captioning system for hearing-impaired movie audiences that transmits and receives AES-128 encrypted closed captions on a wireless frequency. A single USB transmitter plugs into the server to create a no-hassle installation, and it requires no additional projection-booth hardware. With an 80-meter signal range, Dolby CaptiView can be used from any seat in the house.

Dolby Theatre Management System—Intuitive Interface for Your Cinema

The Dolby TMS combines features from both previous Dolby and Doremi TMS versions to offer a versatile and robust solution. The Dolby TMS is a hardware-independent software solution that provides a comprehensive and intuitive user interface for the management of content for any multiplex configuration from 1 to 32 screens. The Dolby TMS also features an open gateway for ticketing/point of sale (POS) and connection to electronic delivery of media through industry partners.

For the third year in a row, Dolby has temporarily equipped the prestigious Colosseum theatre at Caesars Palace with Dolby Atmos to support presentations by several studios. In addition, Dolby Vision will debut in the Colosseum with the screening of Disney•Pixar’s Inside Out.

CinemaCon attendees with full-pass access will be able to experience Dolby Atmos in select footage during studio presentations from Sony Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox, The Walt Disney Studios, and Warner Bros., in the Colosseum, Caesars Palace. The following list shows starting times:

The evolution of the cinema experience continues to evolve at a rapid pace. 2D is far from the norm. 3D was the next step, with 4D following. Taking a page from Star Trek, technological developments are moving at warp speed as the total theatrical experience is now called the “immersive experience.” It involves almost all of our senses and is taking us boldly where no man has gone before. This panel will engage with a number of technology companies and leading exhibitors to identify the key elements for exhibitors to use when introducing new technology into the cinema environment. The three key determinants of sight, seats, and sound will be assessed, identifying where exhibitors have found value and what issues they have faced in premium pricing and technology development.
