Russound, a leader in multiroom audio, has announced a new local source power amplifier for integration with multiroom audio installations. Compact and robust, the new D250LS is a versatile new power amplifier boasts several features that installers and end users will find convenient.
“Our new D250LS power amplifier is the perfect solution for rooms that require local amplification and local source switching,” says Charlie Porritt, Russound’s CEO. “It’s a feature we have on full sized amplifiers, and now we’re delighted to include it in this small form factor.”
Rated at 50 watts / channel, the D250LS delivers a superb sound quality. A Stereo/Bridge Mono switch enables delivery of up to 150-watts (into 8-ohms) in mono mode. Local Source Switching can sense when the user switches on a TV or PC in the room, and automatically override the speakers in that zone of a distributed audio system. The D250LS can be used as a standalone amplifier or with Russound’s C-Series multiroom audio system to power Zones 7 and 8 from a Russound MCA-C5 controller. Perfect for integration with Russound multiroom audio installations, the D250LS accepts practically any audio signal as the local source, including TV, computer, portable media player, CD/DVD player, game console, etc. Thermal and short circuit protection on each amplifier output assure safety and reliability, even under extreme circumstances.
The D250LS accepts speaker-level amplified stereo inputs from the multiroom controller as the default audio signal, and accepts both line-level and speaker-level audio as the audio override signal. A video signal may also be used to trigger the audio override. Selectable delay time (up to 5 minutes) adjusts how long the D250LS takes to switch back to the default audio after the override audio signal disappears. Standard 12v trigger in and out connections are also provided. Standby power consumption is less than half a watt.
Thanks to its low-profile design the D250LS can be used in many areas where most other amplifiers won’t fit. The D250LS’s compact design facilitates side-by-side rack mounting for two units, or placement in tight spaces. The new D250LS measures just 8.5” W x 10.5” D x 1.75” H (21.59 x 26.67 x 4.45 cm), so two fit side by side in a standard 1U rack space.
For installation professionals, Russound made the D250LS amplifier convenient by including hardware for a variety of installation scenarios -- on a wall, on a shelf, or one or two onto a rack shelf. It can be added to both new and existing configurations.
The D250LS will ship in Q@ 2011. The MAP is to be determined.
