Samsung Electronics Co. reported Tuesday that it has now developed a next-generation DVD (digital versatile/video disc) technology which can hold 12 times as much data than current DVDs. The Korean chip giant said the new technology will allow users to tape an airing TV program of up to five hours compared with conventional products which can record only 20 minutes. Many predict that DVD, the next generation of optical disc storage technology, is expected to eventually replace other home entertainment appliances. Samsung said the new DVD technology is capable of storing up to 52GB of data, employing multi-layer optical storage and layer cross-talk cancellation methods.
