CONNECTIONSô 2000: Advancing The Networked Home Welcomes Siemens As A Platinum Sponsor

13-Apr-00

Siemens Austria has added its name to the list of Platinum sponsors at CONNECTIONSô 2000: ""Advancing The Networked."" Held in San Diego, California May 3-5, 2000, CONNECTIONS focuses on the business, technical, and regulatory issues affecting the in-home network and residential gateway markets, with key players participating from a variety of industries, including consumer electronics, computing, energy utility, and residential construction. ""Siemens is a true powerhouse in Europe and its influence in the residential US and Canadian marketplaces will grow with its recent telephone and network efforts,"" states Tricia Parks, President of Parks Associates. Siemens Austria has plans to develop an Internet appliance that will allow a new generation of digital consumer appliances to communicate with Internet services, home systems and each other. This Internet appliance will become one of the focal points for home communications, tying together key technologies in the home with the unlimited base of information and services available over the World Wide Web. Siemens' new device will enhance homeowners' access to Internet-based services and simplify control of the home environment. Such a concept encourages the development of a whole new breed of innovative products, or Internet appliances, geared toward simplifying the way consumers interface with the home environment. ""Siemens is already a leader in the fast growing world of Home Networking as seen at CES and CeBIT this year, and has also shown its intentions to help accelerate the convergence of voice and data by taking a principal role in the Marketing Committee of the HomeRF organization. By developing other Internet devices such as the Internet portal to the home, Siemens is continuing its path of innovation while meeting the needs of the mass consumer,"" said Thomas Albrecht, Director of Product Management at Siemens. Service and content providers will benefit from these expanded capabilities for customer care solutions and the attainment of true one-to-one marketing. As an active participant with the Open Services Gateway Initiative (OSGi) standard, Siemens will leverage the OSGi model of different service bundles, with software based downloads for different services. ""Siemens has been involved in home networking solutions for years and their place in the international playing field is strong. As one of the leaders in the field of convergence, Siemens expertise is a welcome addition to the conference lineup,"" said Richard Buzun, Chairman of the CABA Board of Directors and Senior Vice President of Siemens Energy and Automation. ""We are looking forward to the Showcase portion of the conference, where Siemens and other sponsors will be showcasing their home networking and residential gateways products and services."" The event attracts key players from a variety of industries, including consumer electronics, computing, energy utility, and residential construction. This year, over 500 delegates will participate and will see products from over 50 sponsors representing the top companies in the home networking industry.
