Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) announced its complete line of products for video networking which includes the industryís first receiver decoder capable of transmitting High-Definition (HD) digital video by satellite between network broadcasters and affiliate stations.WaveStarô Decoder HD 4:2:2 combines the receiver and decoder functions into a compact single unit, and includes a satellite demodulator and decoder as well as decryption and conditional access modules. The WaveStar Decoder HD 4:2:2 is designed to provide near lossless compression for consistent high quality digital pictures.Working with Teralogic, Inc., under its early access partner program over the past year, Lucent Digital Video has enhanced its MPEG-2 professional encoding technology to create products such as the WaveStar Decoder.Lucent Digital Video is also expanding the VIDEORunnerô product line of MPEG video codecs. These codecs transmit low bandwidth MPEG video via Internet Protocol. These new solutions were demonstrated live over both ATM and optical networks in the Lucent booth at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention. Lucent Digital Video offers a broad-range of encoder, decoders and multiplexers for video contribution and distribution over digital, optical and traditional broadcast networks. Rounding out Lucentís video networking product line, the other new products demonstrated in Lucentís NAB booth included:- Masterplusô, a new master control system for High Definition (HD) that will be sold by Harris Broadcast for broadcasters making the transition from analog to digital television. - Optivision encoders that transmit MPEG-2 video over IP at bit rates ranging from 3 to 15Mbits/sec. Lucent recently signed a reseller agreement with Optivision.- MetroPointô Multichannel Optical Transmission system, which transmits non-compressed video and MPEG video over an optical network with DMDM technology. Optical networks with DWDM technology can send more channels per fiber and deliver, in real time, non-compressed and MPEG video between post production facilities and television studios. - LAMBDARunnerô, introduced through an OEM agreement with Artel, is a video optical transmission system that transmits and receives non-compressed HD, serial digital (SDI) and analog composite (TV1) video across an optical network. These technologies can be combined to transmit non-compressed and MPEG video over DWDM optical networks. - LINKRunnerô VIP Video Telecom Gateway, which transmits compressed video over IP networks.
