China Becomes World's Largest VCD Player Producer, Consumer

China has become the world's largest VCD player producer and consumer. Statistics from the National VCD Players Industry Working Conference showed that the annual output of VCD players is more than 20 million sets and that of DVD players are two million sets. The sales of VCD and DVD players hit 70 million sets and one million sets by the end of 1999. The market shares occupied by domestic producers have surpassed those by foreign brands. The country exported 5.17 million sets. DVD players are expected to dominate the market in the coming years. The sales of DVD players were seven million sets in 1999 in the world and is expected to reach 10 million sets this year. The DVD player market is expected to expand by three times.Source: Asia Pulse
