PortalPlayer Picks InterTrust's DRM Software

PortalPlayer, Inc., a ten-month-old digital media platform developer, said it has licensed InterTrust Technologies Corp.'s Rights/PD digital rights management (DRM) software. PortalPlayer initially intends to integrate the software into portable audio devices. ""Digital audio players are rapidly becoming an integral part of any music distribution strategy. We believe the most successful products will be those that can manage the secure transfer of files and rights to and from the devices, allowing a rich collection of top named artist offerings to the consumer,'' said Talal Shamoon, Senior Vice President, Media, InterTrust. While PortalPlayer has yet to announce any products or partnerships with consumer device makers, officials with Mitsubishi Corp. and Sensory Science Corp. applauded PortalPlayer's decision to integrate InterTrust's DRM software.
