First Mid-Priced Home Theatre Speaker System With DiAuralÆ Crossover Technology Introduced By EdgeAudio.Comô

2-Jun-00

Establishing a new benchmark for value in home theatre speakers, EdgeAudio.Comô announced the introduction of its Edge Audioô 500D Series 5.1-channel system that for the first time incorporates the revolutionary DiAuralÆ circuit in a mid-priced product. The system is available exclusively through the EdgeAudio.Com Web site, backed by a 30-day no-risk purchase plan. The DiAural circuit replaces a conventional crossover with proprietary, patent-pending circuitry to produce a phase-coherent sound, free of the distortion and sonic artifacts created by traditional crossovers. The 500D Series was designed by DiAural inventor and EdgeAudio.Com Vice President of Product Development Eric Alexander to equal the performance of high-end systems but at a far more affordable price. The complete 5.1-channel system is priced at $1,399.00. It features high quality Vifaô drivers with cabinets crafted from solid walnut and other hardwoods that combine desirable acoustic properties with an elegant furniture-quality finish. The company will offer systems in a variety of woods and finishes. ""We set out to build great-sound speakers that could be sold at affordable prices,"" explained Bob Lightman, President of EdgeAudio.Com. ""After hearing the obvious sonic difference DiAural circuitry makes, we quickly decided to be the first to market this revolutionary technology in a mid-priced system."" Audiophile cable maker Ray Kimber and WordPerfect founder Bruce Bastian formed DiAural, LLC of Ogden, Utah in 1999. ""EdgeAudio.Com's quality and pricing makes it an ideal company to introduce DiAural technology to the mass market,"" said DiAural President Ray Kimber. ""The DiAural circuit dramatically enhances the excellent sound of the Edge Audio 500D speakers by eliminating what I call Doppler Decoding."" According to Kimber, when sound is recorded by a microphone, high frequency waves are distorted by the much larger back and forth movement of the microphone diaphragm created by the low frequencies. When a conventional crossover separates the recorded signal, this high frequency distortion becomes audible. The DiAural circuit replaces a conventional crossover and eliminates this distortion, recreating the pure natural sound of the original source. An important element in EdgeAudio.Com's value strategy is its Internet direct sales policy. Edge Audio speakers are available only at the company's Web site - www.edgeaudio.com. All products are backed by a 30-day no-risk purchase plan under which a customer can return the product if he or she is not completely satisfied. EdgeAudio.Com will pay the return freight. ""Our decision to forego retail distribution and sell only on the Web resulted from several factors, but provides two key customer benefits,"" explained Lightman. ""First, by eliminating the retail markup we can offer our customers tremendous value. And second, by allowing our customers to evaluate our speakers in their own home, with their own equipment, we believe that they are able to make a better-informed purchase decision."" The Edge Audio 500D Series home theatre speaker system consists of four 502D-LR satellite speakers, a 502D-C center speaker and a powered 12-inch subwoofer. Edge Audio 502D Two-Way Satellite Speaker The Edge Audio 502D-LR satellite and 502D-C center speaker, designed by DiAural inventor Eric Alexander, feature a Vifa 5 1/4-inch mid-woofer and a Vifa 1-inch soft dome tweeter coupled by a DiAural circuit. The drivers are housed in a beautifully finished, ported cabinet made of solid 3/4-inch walnut or quinilla, a South American hardwood grown in managed forests. At 3/4-inch thick, the walls of the cabinet are remarkably rigid, virtually eliminating measurable wall resonance. The cabinet is further dampened by extensive internal bracing and acoustic damping material to eliminate high frequency reflection. The result is a small, beautiful speaker, capable of superbly accurate sound reproduction with a huge soundstage that presents music and movies with the impact of a much more expensive high-end system. Edge Audio SW-12/320 12-Inch Powered Subwoofer The Edge Audio SW-12/320 powered subwoofer is a front firing design with 320 watts of power driving a 12-inch long-throw woofer. The driver is housed in a cabinet made of 1-inch thick solid hardwood. The cabinet is not only beautiful; it's rock solid, directing all of the sub's energy to the listener. The SW-12/320 is capable of reproducing the lower octaves of music with accuracy, power and definition. For home theatre, the sub can load a large listening room with tremendous force, and deliver every bit of the realism and tactile experience of great movie viewing. Crossed over at the recommended 85Hz, the SW-12/320 integrates seamlessly with the 502D satellite speakers. EdgeAudio.Com is a manufacturer and Internet retailer of affordable high-end loudspeakers for music and home theatre that sells its products exclusively to consumers at www.edgeaudio.com. Founded in 1999, the company's headquarters are located in Lake Oswego, Oregon, a suburb of Portland.
