At Streaming Media East (June 12-14, 2000), Streambox, Inc. unveils StreamboxTV, a new broadband technology that allows for broadcast-quality digital video to be streamed over the Internet. StreamboxTV is a breakthrough technology that will stream broadcast quality MPEG-2 digital video over Internet Protocol. Scheduled to be launched first in private networks, then broadband DSL and cable markets, StreamboxTV was developed by Russian scientists as well as a former University of Washington engineer who helped pioneer the delivery of High Definition Television (HDTV) over Internet-2. This will provide over one million channels of streaming media content, including DVD-quality movies, MP3s, radio stations, broadcast TV and more, along with narrowcast streams created by Internet users. Basically, if it's streamable, StreamboxTV will stream it. ""We're looking now to demonstrate this technology to potential partners,"" said Hildeman. ""This includes media companies, cable and DSL companies, phone companies and technology partners.
