Panasonic Announces DVD Cross-Promotion To Coincide With The DVD Release Of ""Jurassic Park"" And ""The Lost World""

24-Jul-00

The much anticipated October 10, 2000 release of two blockbuster movies on DVD, ""Jurassic Park"" and ""The Lost World,"" signals an equally blockbuster joint promotion from Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company (PCEC) and Universal Studios Home Video. Consumers who purchase both ""Jurassic Park"" and ""The Lost World"" on DVD and a current Panasonic DVD player between October 1, 2000 and January 31, 2001 will receive two free Universal Studios Home Video DVDs of their choice, from a selection of 34 titles. Among the choices are the Collectorís Editions of ""Out of Sight,"" ""Danteís Peak,"" ""Daylight,"" ""Blues Brothers,"" ""Mercury Rising"" and ""The Flintstones."" What distinguishes this DVD promotion is that the giant consumer electronics company is offering it with the purchase of any one its Panasonic or Technics brand DVD products, including home theatre systems, DVD-Audio players and TV/DVD/VCR combo units, to name a few. ""Panasonic was the first to introduce DVD players into the U.S. market in 1997, and we now offer the broadest assortment of DVD products in the industry,"" said Rusty Osterstock, General Manager of Panasonic Companyís DVD and Technics product lines. ""We are committed to bringing the consumer the best in DVD, and what better way to enhance the DVD experience than a cross-promotion which features two of the biggest movies of all time and gives the consumer a choice of free movies."" The free DVD movie offer will be promoted on Panasonic Consumer Electronic Companyís and Universal Studios Home Videoís Web sites, as well as through national print media and point-of-purchase materials in retail outlets. The growth of the DVD format has been unprecedented and continues to set sales records. More than eight million DVD players are expected to ship by the end of 2000, bringing the total units shipped since the formatís introduction in 1997 to almost 14 million units. This new DVD software promotion is one of the many continuing efforts by Panasonic to create awareness and excitement for the format and make it easy for consumers to enjoy the DVD experience. As a leader in DVD technology, Panasonic has brought to market some of the most innovative consumer DVD products in the world: the worldís first portable DVD player with a built-in LCD screen, the first DVD-Audio players, the first DVD-Video and DVD-Audio players for automobiles and the worldís first TV/DVD/VCR combination. Panasonic consumer DVD products are marketed in the United States by Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company (PCEC), a division of Matsushita Electric Corporation of America (MECA). MECA is the principal North American subsidiary of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., (NYSE: MC, PCX: MC), one of the worldís largest producers of electronic and electric products for consumer, business and industrial use.
