Miller & Kreisel Sound Introduces ""K Series""

Line Of Diminutive Speakers Establishes New Performance Standards With Its Entry Into A New Price Category

Miller & Kreisel Sound (M&K) has introduced the ""K Series,"" a line of affordable, smartly-designed speakers conceived to redefine the performance standard for the small speaker category. The line, with system packages starting at less than $1,300, represents a new price category for the company. It consists of two satellite speaker models and a powered subwoofer, allowing for flexible system configurations to satisfy multiple size, performance, and budget requirements. But what makes this line especially unequaled is that, unlike many other small speakers on the market today which are barely adequate to render movie sound tracks, the K Series, like all M&K systems, was developed primarily to produce music with unerring accuracy. M&K has been designing satellite systems for music since 1974, and this attention to music reproduction has become especially important with the advent of DVD-Audio and other 5.1-channel music recordings. The K-5 Satellite Speaker ($149 each) is compact (7 3/8 (H) x 4 7/8 (W) x 5 7/8 (D) inches), and utilizes a full M&K Phase-Focused crossover network (the same type found in the M&K Professional studio monitors) to feed its 1-inch Neodymium dome tweeter and 4-inch cast-basket treated paper cone woofer. The K-5's enormous clarity and definition are apparent whether the speaker is oriented horizontally or vertically. Because of its versatility, the K-5 can serve in a stereo satellite/subwoofer system or a full 5.1 channel surround sound system, with the speaker operating in any system channel (left, right, center, or surround). For those who need even more performance than the K-5, the slightly-larger K-7 Satellite ($249 each) delivers greater output, power handling, and dynamic range. Standing 5 1/2 inches taller than the K-5, but with the same width and depth, it gains its performance advantage through the addition of a second treated paper cone woofer. Like the K-5, the K-7 features an M&K Phase-Focused crossover network and full magnetic shielding. Its response extends from 80Hz to 20kHz with an extremely flat +/-2.5dB. It has the same bracket and mounting options as the K-5. Completing the K-Series system, the K-9 powered subwoofer ($550) generates incredible output capability in a very small package (10 1/8 (H) x 13 3/4 (W) x 10 (D) inches). This remarkably tight and musical-sounding subwoofer uses a special, brand new 8-inch long-throw treated-paper subwoofer driver, with a conservative 75-watt continuous, M&K-designed amplifier that delivers well in excess of 150 watts peak, thanks in part to M&K's exclusive Headroom Maximizer circuit. Magnetically shielded, this subwoofer has both line-level and speaker level inputs. With M&K's sealed-box Deep Bass design, it has a very deep low-frequency bass extension. Its cosmetics complete the system look, matching the K-5 and K-7 in shape and color. M&K has also paid careful attention to fashion in creating the series. The products are small enough to be located virtually anywhere in a room and disappear from view, yet are bold enough with their radiused edges and dramatic black/titanium finish for placement where they will stand out.
