ELAN Announces Touch Panel Control Of CD Libraries

ELAN Home Systemsí new VIA! home automation touch panel will provide graphics access and control of vast CD libraries, the home automation and audio/video systems manufacturer announced. ELAN will offer VIA!Music Managementô, a CD library controller that utilizes Escientís unique TuneBaseÆ technology. VIA!Music Management comes on the heels of ELAN unveiling its VIA! Touch Panelô, which uses customizable, user-friendly graphics to control a wide array of sources, including tuners, CD players, digital music, DVD players, satellite receivers, VCRs, video cameras, lighting, HVAC and security systems. The panels can control any automated system in the home, including VIA!Music Management, through infrared or serial (RS-232) controller modules. With VIA!Music Management, homeowners can access up to three CD changers and select CDs by title, cover art and play list from any touch panel in the home. The product uses the unique EscientÆ disc recognition technology. ""ELAN has the reputation for manufacturing feature-rich, high-quality systems to distribute audio and video throughout the home,"" said Michael Murray, ELANís Marketing Director. Another VIA!Music Management feature allows homeowners to create and edit their own song lists, such as ""dinner music"" or ""morning wake-up music."" Users also can choose how to organize their music collections, such as by style or artist. VIA!Music Management works with Sony 200- and 300-disc CDP CD changers, as well as Denon DN and DCM series CD changers. Future plans are in the works for VIA!Music Management to support the new Sony 400-disc CDP changers. Users also can operate VIA!Music Management from their televisions using a wireless infrared keyboard. The keyboard allows the user to edit and update CD collections as well. Service and software upgrades are available through a standard telephone connection.
