DolbyÆ Laboratories will showcase four of its most advanced pro audio technology products at this year's AES Convention (September 22-25, 2000, booth #511 in the Los Angeles Convention Center). Dolby staff will demonstrate the featured Dolby professional audio products, Dolby Models DP570, DM100, DP569, and DP562, to produce the highest-quality digital audio possible. Additionally, Dolby staff will demonstrate Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) technology for secure Internet music delivery.""Dolby's professional products line, including our new DP570 and DM100 units, are key components for anyone who is producing multichannel audio for DTV or DVD,"" said Nancy Byers-Teague, Dolby's Marketing Manager for Pro Audio Products. ""We are excited to show the capabilities of these products to the pro audio industry at this year's AES Convention in the U.S.""DP570The DP570 Multichannel Audio Tool is an all-in-one device that enables producers to monitor and enhance the quality of their multichannel mixes. The unit lets the user monitor multichannel audio, check downmixes, re-assign channels, and - best of all - quickly create Dolby Digital metadata and hear its effect in real time. In conjunction with Dolby E and Dolby Digital codecs, the DP570 gives unprecedented control over what consumers hear at home, while simplifying production and eliminating a host of separate components. DM100The award-winning DM100 Portable Audio Monitor is a hand-held portable diagnostic tool that allows audio systems' integrators and service engineers to easily test the integrity and composition of various Dolby Digital, Dolby E, and PCM signals in a production facility. The unit features a built-in speaker and headphone output for monitoring two channels simultaneously, and generates Dolby Digital, Dolby E, and PCM test bit streams at its outputs for testing purposes. It is powered by four AA batteries or by an included wall-mounted DC power supply.DP569Dolby's DP569 is the most advanced Dolby Digital multichannel audio encoder. Intended for digital TV, cable, disc authoring facilities, and mastering for DVD and other recorded media, the unit supports encoded bit rates from 56 to 640kbps and channel formats from mono to 5.1-channel surround sound.DP562DP562 (the counterpart of the DP569) is a reference decoder, enabling production, mastering, and broadcast facilities to monitor audio, video, and multimedia programs with multichannel sound. With features tailored to the professional user, including a selection of decoding format modes, such as Dolby Digital and four-channel Dolby Surround Pro LogicÆ decoding for matrix-encoded surround material, the DP562 is an essential production tool for both Dolby Digital and Dolby SurroundÆ audio program material for DVDs, DTV, and other media.DVD AuthoringDolby staff will also demonstrate the process of producing Dolby Digital (.ac3) files for DVD audio file mastering. A DP569 Multichannel Dolby Digital Encoder and DP562 Multichannel Dolby Digital Decoder are key components of the system. File preparation is accomplished using the Dolby Digital Recorder and the Dolby Remote software utilities, running on a Windows-based PC (95/98/NT versions applicable) with a digital I/O soundcard. Advanced Audio Coding Dolby staff will demonstrate MPEG-2 AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) technology used in electronic music delivery applications, Japanese digital broadcast, and emerging digital radio systems. Material will be presented in a variety of stereo bitrates from 128 kb/s to 48 kb/s, and several IC decoder implementations and AAC-enabled products will be on display. Dolby licenses AAC IP on behalf of the co-developers/licensors of the standard, and also provides support in the development of AAC encoders and decoders.About Dolby LaboratoriesDolby Laboratories is the developer of signal processing systems used worldwide in applications that include motion picture sound, consumer entertainment products and media, broadcasting and music recording.
