Regis McKenna To Keynote CEA Industry Forum & Fall Conference

18-Sep-00

Regis McKenna, the high-tech marketing guru who helped launch some of the most important technological advances of the last 25 years, will give the keynote presentation at the 2000 Consumer Electronics Association Industry Forum & Fall Conference. The conference, produced by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and co-located with the Parks Associates Forum2000, will be held at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, California, from October 15-18, 2000. The keynote session will be held on Wednesday, October 18 at 8:30am. McKenna is Chairman of The McKenna Group, a management and marketing consulting firm that applies information and telecommunications technologies to business strategies, and has advised a number of entrepreneurial start-ups during their formation years, including America Online, Apple, Compaq, Electronic Arts, Genentech, Intel, Linear Technology, Lotus, Microsoft, National Semiconductor, Silicon Graphics and 3Com. McKenna helped launch the first microprocessor at Intel, the first personal computer at Apple, the first recombinant DNA genetically engineered product at Genentech and the first retail computer store at The Byte Shop. ""Staying competitive in the world of digital technology requires 'real time' thinking,"" said Gary Shapiro, CEA's President and CEO. ""Regis McKenna has helped launch some of the most important technologies of our generation. He's the expert in real time thinking and we're looking forward to his insight,"" added Shapiro. McKenna developed the concept of ""Real Time,"" where the time-span from want or need to satisfaction is collapsing to zero and leading to the growth of self-service technologies. McKenna is the author of ""Real Time: Preparing For The Age of the Never Satisfied Customer,"" and three other books on technology business strategies and marketing. Real Time, published by Harvard Business Books in 1997, analyzes the effects of technology on the marketplace, describing how high-speed electronics enable ready access to information, products and services and, as a result, generate increased customer expectations for immediate satisfaction. His other books include ""The Regis Touch,"" ""Who's Afraid Of Big Blue"" and ""Relationship Marketing,"" which focuses on the interactive relationships vital to market acceptance in the age of the computer. The conference, subtitled ""Leading Edge: Seizing Opportunities In The Digital Age,"" will also feature educational sessions, CEA member meetings and a CE Industry Marketplace featuring as many as 20 tabletop exhibits by sponsoring companies. It will provide attendees with insight into the digital future and the tools they need to lead in the consumer technology marketplace. Parks Associates Forum2000 focuses on the business and technology-based product opportunities emerging from the rapid diffusion of the Internet into U.S. homes. Featured speakers are from the industries creating new IP-based services, systems and user devices including security, computing, broadband access, controls, entertainment, home networking and community intranet services.
