Zenith Showcases 60-Inch HDTV Plasma Display Panel At CEDIA EXPO 2000

Zenith Electronics Corporation introduced one of the world's largest hang-on-the-wall plasma displays - a 60-inch HDTV widescreen model, which is the flagship of Zenith's PDP (plasma display panel) line, planned for introduction in 2001. Demonstrated at CEDIA EXPO 2000, Zenith's 60-inch PDP boasts a contrast ratio of 300:1 and a peak brightness of 300 cd/m2. The company claims that the unit offers 256 gray-scale definition and a color palette of 16.7 million colors.The 60-inch unit features soft-touch screen controls and a universal remote control with LCD display and a Thumbstick pointing device. The unit's image scaling capabilities allow resizing of video and computer images to a 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio with 1280 x 720p resolution. Also displayed at Zenithís CEDIA booth was a prototype 40-inch PDP display, designed to deliver the highest peak brightness in its category (450 cd/m2). Also featuring soft-touch screen control technology, it has a contrast ratio of 350:1 while consuming 300 watts of power.
