Philips Introduces Family Of Real Flatô Picture Tube Televisions At CEDIA EXPO 2000

Philips Consumer Electronics displayed its latest line of digital widescreen televisions at CEDIA EXPO 2000. The line features a variety of styles and sizes, ranging from its 64-inch rear projection TV to its new 30-inch HD-ready, direct view model. ""When it comes to the newest in digital home cinema, wider is better,"" said Des Power, Senior Vice President/General Manager, TV, Philips Consumer Electronics, North America. ""Widescreen TV already is recognized in Europe as the format of choice because of the true cinematic experience it provides. When you combine widescreen with digital quality images, you are creating a much more powerful experience. For years, many consumers have been striving to build the perfect home cinema - and itís finally here."" Direct View Sets The 30-inch (30PW9815) and one of the 34-inch models (34PW9815) have a sleek, silver widescreen display. A second 34-inch model (34PW9846) has a black-gloss finish and includes a matching stand with an integrated analog clock as well as the popular Philips Pronto universal touch screen remote control. All three sets are HD-ready models, capable of displaying HD television signals when connected to a digital set-top box or another high definition source. They also contain the Philips Real Flat picture tube. Philips Digital Natural Motion, progressive scan, line doubling and Active Controlô are among the other features. Philips HD-ready direct view models also offer two-tuner double window picture-in-picture, Gemstar GUIDEô Plus Gold+ programming guide and the Navitrackô graphical user interface. The Philips 34-inch HD-Ready direct view with a black, high-gloss finish has a suggested retail price (SRP) of $4,999, which includes the matching TV stand and Pronto remote control. The silver finish 34-inch set (34PW9815) is priced at $3,499 (SRP) and the 30-inch (30PW9815) at $2,499 (SRP). All sets are currently available. Projectors Like Philipsí direct view models, Philips Rear Projection 55-inch and 60-inch HD-ready sets are comprised of a high definition display that can support the 1080i high definition format when connected to a digital set-top box or another high definition source. Currently available with a suggested retail price of $4,799 and $5,299, the 55-inch (55PP9701) and the 60-inch (60PP9701) include features such as the Philips PixelMaxô system which incorporates optical technology, first surface mirrors, advanced scan velocity modulation (SVM) and three-line digital comb filters. These televisions also include Philipsí exclusive Automatic Phosphor Aging Compensation (APAC), which minimizes the permanent after-images that can result when a non-moving picture is left on the screen for an extended time. Four widescreen format conversion modes are included for viewing options when the incoming signal format does not match the displayís widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9. These televisions also feature multiple connections, via side and rear connection panels. These projection Two HD inputs are included. Philips has a fully integrated 64-inch, high definition, rear projection digital television (64PH9905). In addition to the 9-inch CRTs and first surface mirrors, the set has 15-point conversion said to result in sharper, clearer color picture quality. Like the 55-inch and 60-inch HD-ready sets, it also includes Automatic Phosphor Aging Compensation. The 64-inch HDTV features analog viewing format selection and analog component inputs. It is currently available in retail for $9,990. Philips also announced a 64-inch, HD-ready, rear projection digital television with 9-inch CRTs. Like its sister product, the 64PH9905, the 64PP9751 is capable of displaying in full 1920x1080i when connected to a digital set-top box or another high definition source. Available in stores in October for $7,990, this set comes bundled with the Philips Pronto touchscreen programmable remote control. Plasma Displays Philipsí plasma FlatTVô system is less than six inches thick, and boasts a 160-degree viewing angle and advanced video display features. The FlatTV monitor can be accompanied by a tuner box control system that can be tucked away in a cabinet or closet, up to 33 feet from the actual display. The monitor is available at a suggested retail price of $9,990. The combination of the monitor and tuner box is available now for a suggested retail price of $10,990. New in 2000, Philips FlatTV system offers optional frames in a choice of five colors: silver, crystal blue, crystal green, crystal rouge and champagne.
