Parasound Debuts New Architectural Loudspeakers

Parasound has introduced a new line of in-wall and ceiling speakers, the Precision Architectural Loudspeaker line, or P.A.L., consisting of four full-range in-wall speakers, one home theatre left/center/right, one in-wall subwoofer and three ceiling speakers.The top-of-the-line PAL-380 is a three-way in-wall speaker with an 8-inch woofer, plus an unconventional tweeter/midrange sub-baffle that can pivot ±15 degrees along the vertical axis of the speaker. This sub-baffle contains a 1-inch aluminum dome tweeter and 2-inch soft-dome dual-chamber midrange. The same isolated mid/tweeter configuration is used on the PAL-360 home theatre LCR (left/center/right) speaker in conjunction with dual 6-inch woofers mounted on either side of the tweeter/midrange module. The PAL-360 is designed to be mounted vertically or horizontally.Key features of the PAL line include rugged Kevlar woofers with Bullet Phase Plugs, multi-layer polyurethane surrounds, ""powerful"" motors and crossover networks with glass epoxy circuit boards and high-resolution inductors and capacitors. All the full-range speakers have aluminum dome tweeters, three-position treble controls, two-position mid-bass adjustment, and a three-position midrange control on the three-way models. These controls give the custom installer the capability to tailor the sound of the speakers to suit the acoustics of the installation.These speakers are designed to meet the utilitarian needs of custom installers. They use convenient ""dog-leg"" mounting, with springs to prevent over-torquing. A protective rear mesh keeps the moving parts free of dust and in-wall debris, and each speaker includes a foam scrim sheet. Optional magnetic field cancellation covers are available for speakers located near video monitors.Other full-range models include the two-way PAL-280, PAL-265, and PAL-245. Each of these has a 1-inch aluminum dome tweeter and 8, 6 1/2 or 4 1/2-inch woofers, respectively.The PAL-1002 is a 10-inch in-wall subwoofer with a Kevlar sandwich flat-piston diaphragm and a cast aluminum basket. It has dual voice coils and a 4-pound vented magnet. An optional PAX subwoofer crossover is also available.The PAL-80, PAL-65 and PAL-45 are two-way round ceiling speakers that can be used be in single channel or dual-channel operation.
