SpeakerCraft Introduces Big Bang Amplifiers

26-Sep-00

SpeakerCraft introduced the Big Bang Series of custom installation audio power amplifiers at CEDIA EXPO 2000. The six new Big Bangs include a pair of two-channel models, the 75-watts/channel BB275 and 125-watts/channel BB2125, plus two high-power multichannel models - the 12-channel BB1265 and the eight-channel BB865, both rated at 65 watts/channel. Rounding out the line are two modestly priced multichannel models, the 12-channel BB1235 and eight-channel BB835, both rated at 35-watts/channel. SpeakerCraft has reportedly equipped its Big Bang Series of custom installation amplifiers with all the features installers need. All new Big Bang models feature multiple turn-on modes, including audio signal sensing and a voltage trigger. Voltage trigger outputs allow the amplifiers to turn on other devices. Daisy chain signal inputs and outputs allow multiple amplifiers to be stacked together. Big Bang models BB2125, BB275, BB1265 and BB865 incorporate discrete power supplies to balance power between channels, while the multichannel BB1265 and BB865 models have discrete power supplies paired monaurally, so that demands put on one channel do not affect performance of the others. A massive toroidal transformer in each model is said to assure adequate power reserves. Discrete output devices allow each amplifier to drive low impedance loads with very low distortion. ""Huge"" filter capacitors are said to improve dynamics and lower IM distortion, while providing a sustained energy storage for low bass. Big Bang models BB1265 and BB865 feature independent audio inputs with separate level controls to allow installers to adjust each roomís sound levels, which are determined by the type of speakers used. Each channel can be individually selected to play the left, right or left and right inputs. Bus inputs and outputs are utilized to connect a single audio source to all channels, and auxiliary bus inputs and outputs allow a second source to be connected to all channels. All of this is controlled by a single switch. Separate protection circuitry for each channel allows installers to isolate problems to one room without the whole system shutting down. When extra power is needed, two channels can be bridged together or, to convert a stereo signal to a mono output, the bridging switch can be engaged for the pair of channels to be combined. All multichannel amplifiers include SpeakerCraftís exclusive InstaLLockô connector. When used with the optional InstaLLock plug and harness, all speaker wire connections can be made inside the wall. The BB1235 and BB835 multichannel amplifiers are designed for less demanding multiroom systems, while retaining all the features provided on the BB1265 and BB865. Big Bang amplifiers are available now from SpeakerCraft dealers.
