Mission FS2-AV Features NXT Flat-Panel Technology

28-Sep-00

Mission Electronics, the internationally acclaimed U.K.-based loudspeaker manufacturer, announced the introduction of its FS2-AV Home Theater Loudspeaker System, featuring NXT's breakthrough flat-panel loudspeaker technology for superlative sonic performance along with a unique modular design that offers far greater installation flexibility than conventional satellite/subwoofer systems. The Mission FS2-AV system is comprised of five satellite speakers utilizing NXT flat-panel drivers, plus an integrated powered subwoofer. The system also includes all necessary connecting cables, including thin, flat speaker cable that can be easily hidden under carpets and wallpaper, or painted over. NXT's patented flat panel technology is at the heart of the new Mission FS2-AV system. The satellites utilize NXT's patented flat panel technology, which represents a radical break from all previous flat-panel designs, and entails the use of a thin, light rigid panel driven by two tiny exciter elements. Unlike conventional speaker designs, NXT technology yields complex vibration modes over the entire panel surface, producing full frequency response from approximately 200Hz to 20kHz from a single driver for remarkably pure, coherent and uncolored sound quality. This design also has the advantage of producing a response that fills the room with an expansive soundfield, with less volume attenuation over distance than conventional loudspeakers. And thanks to their exceptional off-axis dispersion, the FS2-AV satellites provide smooth, accurate tonal balance from virtually any listening position. Measuring (in inches) only 12 1/2 high by 5 3/8 wide by 1 3/4 deep, the FS2-AV satellites feature uniquely-shaped enclosures with a three-sided angled and tapered rear section, which provide a far wider variety of home theater and custom installation options than conventional satellite speakers. The satellites can be mounted flat against a wall; in a vertical or horizontal corner; at a 45-degree angle on a wall or ceiling, or free-standing either on their sides or using the included integral stands-ideal for bookshelf or center-channel placement. The magnetically-shielded enclosures are precision molded from an inert high-tech polymer composite for structural rigidity and freedom from unwanted internal resonances, and are supplied with two curved trim pieces that can be affixed to either or both sides to create an elegantly finished appearance. If desired, additional satellites can be purchased, which can be linked together in pairs or even in a large vertical or horizontal array for greater sound coverage. The FS2-AV's subwoofer is also totally unique. Its compact, space-saving design (20 1/2 high by 12 1/2 wide by 10 deep - in inches), incorporates a 55-watt amplifier and 6 1/2-inch high-excursion woofer in a tuned reflex enclosure to deliver articulate, powerful low-frequency response. The subwoofer is designed for unobtrusive placement either vertically or horizontally against a wall or in a corner, utilizing the wall and floor boundaries to further augment bass performance. The subwoofer features adjustable level and crossover frequency controls, a dedicated LFE line-level input for use with A/V receivers with a dedicated low-frequency effects channel output, and high-level ""throughput"" connections that accept the speaker outputs from a receiver and allow the satellites to be connected directly to the subwoofer. A link to connect a second subwoofer is also provided, for enhanced low-frequency output in larger rooms. For more information, visit www.del.denon.com/speakers.
