Denon Announces Introduction Of DVD-Audio/Video Player

28-Sep-00

Marking one of the most significant new product announcements in the company's history, Denon Electronics announced the introduction of its DVD-3300 DVD Audio/Video player, the company's first-ever DVD player with DVD-Audio playback capability. The new DVD-Audio format offers a new level of digital audio fidelity far superior to standard CD audio, to deliver spectacular musical realism from DVD-Audio-encoded program material. Along with standard-setting audio performance, the DVD-3300 is designed for state-of-the-art video quality, making it the ultimate high-end DVD source component for the finest home entertainment systems. The Denon DVD-3300 delivers the full sonic benefits of the DVD-Audio format, which is capable of up to 24-bit quantization and 192kHz sampling, a remarkable 144dB dynamic range and a frequency response from approximately 2Hz to 100kHz for two-channel stereo audio-performance specifications far superior to the 16-bit, 44.1kHz CD audio standard. In addition, the DVD-Audio format can provide vastly improved 5.1-channel surround sound using linear PCM sampling technology with a sampling rate up to 192kHz. The DVD-Audio format utilizes MLPô (Meridian Lossless Packingô) decoding for ultra-high resolution multichannel DVD-Audio programs, which ""squeezes"" the digital audio data by a proprietary algorithm that ""packs"" the data onto a DVD-Audio disc with no loss of fidelity. During playback, the MLP function ""unpacks"" the data and outputs it in its original bit-for-bit high-resolution form, for sonic purity and fidelity that is absolutely faithful to the original multichannel digital master used to author the disc. The DVD-3300 employs six Burr-Brown 24-bit, 192kHz D/A converters for the highest possible resolution and provides true 24/96 stereo PCM digital audio output. The DVD-3300 delivers extraordinary audio quality in every sonic respect, with dramatically improved low frequency authority, midrange richness, treble purity, imaging and soundstage reproduction. The end result is a remarkably natural and lifelike musical presentation. To complement its state-of-the-art digital circuitry, the DVD-3300 is constructed utilizing premium quality internal components, selected for maximum sonic purity. For the best-possible sound quality when playing a DVD-Audio disc, the DVD-3300 features an Audio Only mode that turns off the video circuit to eliminate the possibility of extraneous noise contaminating the audio signal. Along with DVD-Audio decoding capability, the DVD-3300 also includes built-in DolbyÆ Digital and DTSÆ Digital Surroundô decoders with built-in bass management, allowing users to enjoy both popular surround sound formats via the DVD-3300's 5.1-channel outputs. In addition to DVD-Audio discs, the DVD-3300 is playback-compatible with DVD-Video discs, Video CDs and standard audio CDs. In addition to its unprecedented audio capabilities, the Denon DVD-3300 is engineered for top-quality video performance. The DVD-3300 includes a high-speed, precision 10-bit, 27MHz video D/A converter that provides exceptional color accuracy and resolution of fine picture detail. To realize the full benefits of this highly accurate decoding circuitry, the DVD-3300 includes component video outputs, and also features S-Video and composite video connections. Image quality can be tailored to individual preferences, if desired, by the player's Picture Mode video detail control, which allows a choice of Soft, Fine and Cinema Mode viewing options. The Denon DVD-3300 supports all the capabilities of the DVD-Audio/Video and DVD-Video formats, and includes a wide variety of additional performance and convenience features that make it the ultimate home entertainment source component. Highlights include a Cinema Voice Mode that allows the volume of the dialog to be increased to adjust the balance between the dialog and the movie soundtrack, a Headphone Virtual Surround feature that provides a realistic surround sound listening environment through headphones (when listening to Dolby Digital-encoded DVD discs), a variety of random and repeat play modes and more. The DVD-3300's remote control and easy to use Graphical User Interface (GUI) menus provide ready access to all functions and make set up and operation simple. The Denon DVD-3300 carries a suggested retail price of $1,199 and is currently shipping. For more information, visit www.del.denon.com/home.
