Denon Electronics is now shipping its AKTIS RC-8000 Programmable LCD Remote Control and companion RC-8001ST Charger Base/RF Relay Station. The new AKTIS remote control system provides complete control of even the most sophisticated home entertainment systems from a single programmable and customizable device, and transmits both IR and RF control signals for total system control flexibility including multi-room operation. Designed for unmatched ease of use, the Denon AKTIS RC-8000 remote features a large, high-contrast 320 x 240 pixel illuminated LCD touchscreen panel that displays on-screen ""buttons"" corresponding to the functions of the component selected for operation. The touchscreen panel operates in conjunction with six standard buttons for most-used functions such as volume and channel selection, along with a convenient joystick control. The RC-8000 comes pre-programmed with a wide variety of control codes for major brands of A/V components, and can easily learn the control codes from virtually any existing infrared remote control.Denon Marketing Manager David Birch-Jones noted, ""We created the AKTIS to be nothing less than the ultimate remote control. Although there are many universal remotes on the market, consumers often have many difficulties using them-finding them too complicated to program and use, or even hard to hold comfortably. The RC-8000 also includes a USB port that enables it to be connected to a PC for editing and backing up the unit's settings. All settings are retained in the RC-8000's large, non-volatile flash memory. In addition, its RF capability allows the AKTIS to operate systems that are installed in locations out of the reach of IR beams. The RC-8000 control unit sends the required commands to the RC-8001ST base station via RF, which then relays the commands to the receiving components in the remote location. If desired, the AKTIS can transmit using two different RF bands and dedicated ID codes for multiple RC-8000 setups throughout the home. The RC-8001ST is also equipped with a wired data output terminal that can be directly connected to the Denon AVR-5800 receiver or the data input port of a Denon IR re-transmitter, and also features an IR emitter output port for connection to a Denon or other brand of IR emitter. The RC-8001ST base station also functions as a charger unit for the RC-8000 remote.
