Genelec Introduces The 1034BC Center-Channel Speaker

Genelec, Inc., exclusive U.S. distributor of Genelec Active Home Theater Systems, announces the introduction of a new active speaker for surround sound applications, the 1034BC active center channel speaker. As with all Genelec Active Home Theater Systems, the 1034BC employs Genelecís proprietary Directivity Control Waveguide Technology (DCWô). The DCWô provides excellent stereo imaging and frequency balance, even in difficult acoustic environments. The new 1034BC can be used as part of a surround sound system as either the center speaker in L-C-R configuration, or three 1034BCís can be employed as the ultimate front wall system by simply rotating the DCWô on the left and right speakers. The speakers and amplifiers are matched as a complete calibrated package in the 1034BC, resulting in uniform performance. The fast-acting, low distortion amplifiers are capable of driving a stereo system to peak output levels in excess of 125dB SPL at 2 meters, with program signals. The 1034BC has a low-profile cabinet to allow for optimum placement where space is at a premium. It can be sited above or below a video screen, or even vertically, if the DCW is rotated accordingly. The center speaker is designed for flush mounting, though it can also be used free-standing. The separate amplifier is built into a rack-mounted chassis, which fits easily into a standard 19-inch 7U equipment rack, withvibration isolators that double as quick release hinges for easy maintenance. The cabinet is constructed of veneered MDF, which has been heavily braced to eliminate structural resonance.Treble, midrange and bass amplifiers each respectively produce 120W, 350W and 2 x 400W of short term power with very low THD and IM distortion. The bass frequencies are reproduced by two long throw 305mm (12-inch) bass drivers loaded with a 160-liter vented box. The -3dB point is 32Hz and the low frequency response extends down to 28Hz (-6dB). The midrange frequencies are reproduced by a proprietary 130mm (5-inch) direct radiating cone driver loaded within the DCW. The high frequency driver is a 25mm (1-inch) metal dome which also is loaded by the DCW.
