DolbyÆ Laboratories Reports Successful Launch Of CP650 Digital Film Sound Processor

DolbyÆ Laboratories announced that its CP650, the latest and most technologically advanced unit in the companyís Cinema Processor family, has launched successfully. Released in June 2000, the company has shipped more than 1,000 CP650 units worldwide as of October 1, 2000. The U.S. debut of the latest cinema processor from Dolby coincided with the ShowEast convention in Orlando, Florida, October 12-14. Dolby also hosts a special opening day cocktail reception on Thursday, October 12. A number of cinema complexes have chosen to install the CP650 exclusively on all screens. These include: - AmStar Stadium 12, Oxford, Alabama, opening November 2000. All 12 screens will be equipped with CP650 units, and three of them will be equipped for Dolby Digital Surround EXô playback. - Muvico Majestic 20 Theaters, Tampa, Florida, opening October 2000. All 20 screens will be CP650-equipped. - Wallace Theaters Multiplex in Kona, Hawaii, set to open November 2000. All 10 screens will be CP650-equipped. - Kerasotes Theatresí ShowPlace 16 in Springfield, Illinois, ShowPlace 12 in Columbus, Indiana, ShowPlace 8 in Galesburg, Illinois and ShowPlace 8 in Vincennes, Indiana, all opening Christmas 2000. All 44 screens will be CP650-equipped. - Warner Bros. Theatres International, 55 CP650 units for various European projects. - Cine Colombia, Unicentro 8 in Bogota, and Viscaya 5 in Medellin, opening this fall. All screens will be CP650-equipped. The CP650ís functional design and automation control allows for easy operation in todayís multiplex environment, while Ethernet networking makes it ideally suited for tomorrowís entertainment complex. Some of its many other features include: - A hinged front-panel door that can be opened to expose all connectors and test points necessary for installation - Built-in diagnostic software and test equipment - AES/EBU digital input for PCM or Dolby Digital decoding - Six analog inputs for external adapters - Audio output for hearing impaired channel - Comprehensive equalization techniques, including one-third octave (screen and surround channels), selectable corner frequencies (screen channels) and parametric filters (LFE channel) For more information about Dolby Laboratories, visit www.dolby.com.
