8-Nov-00

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) elected new members of the Executive Board and the Board of Directors during the association's annual meetings held in California the week of October 16, 2000. The new members of the boards will assume their leadership positions on January 1, 2001. At the meetings, Ronald Stone, President, Pioneer Electronics Service, Inc., was elected Chairman of the board, replacing Darrell Issa, President of Directed Electronics, Inc. Mr. Stone previously served as Co-Vice Chairman of the Board with Katherine Gornik, President of Thiel Audio Products Company. Ms. Gornik was re-elected as Co-Vice Chair and will be joined in 2001 by Loyd Ivey, chairman and CEO of Mitek Corporation who was elected as the new Co-Vice Chairman of the board. Jerry Kalov, Kay Associates (formerly with Cobra Electronics) will continue as Industry Executive Advisor - a position formerly called Industry Vice President - which he has held for the past three years. Stone, Gornik, Ivey, Kalov, past CEA Chairman and Recoton President Robert Borchardt along with two at large members and the Chairs of each of CEA's five product divisions form CEA's Executive Board. Two new product division Chairs were also elected. Dave Hill, Vice President of Business Development, Panja Inc. will serve on the board as Chair of the Home Networking and IT Division (working title). This newly-formed division combines the former Integrated Home Systems and the former Communications & Information Technology (IT) Products divisions, recognizing the growing use of IT products in the home environment. Stephen Witt, Vice President of Brand Marketing and Communications, Alpine Electronics, will serve on the board as new Chair of the Mobile Electronics Division. ""With Ron, Kathy, Loyd, Jerry, Bob and others named to the Executive Board, we have elected leadership that will provide great vision and guidance,"" said Gary Shapiro, President and CEO of CEA. ""Our industry continues to be at the forefront of developing workstyle and lifestyle technologies. Our new leadership reflects the diverse sectors of the consumer electronics industry, but they all share a vision that will keep CEA positioned as the premiere technology organization in 2001 and beyond."" CEA membership is split into five main product divisions: accessories, audio, home networking and IT, mobile electronics and video.
