SonyStyle.com Commemorates Grand Opening

13-Nov-00

Sony Electronics e-Solutions Company LLC announced the official public launch of SonyStyle.com, an information-rich, e-commerce Web site that is available directly at SonyStyle.com or through the electronics link on Sony.com. The site offers visitors a variety of content, commerce and community features, with connectivity options planned for the near future. According to Robert Ashcroft, President and CEO of Sony Electronics e-Solutions Co. LLC, the company has signed an agreement with Covad Communications of Santa Clara, California. The agreement provides for Sony-branded dial-up and broadband Internet access powered by Covad. The network access services, under the name ""Sony Style Connect,"" are expected to launch in the first half of 2001, and will provide seamless connectivity for Sony customers as more and more devices that link to the Internet become available. ""E-commerce is about lifestyles, possibilities and convenience, not just price and comparisons,"" Ashcroft said. ""SonyStyle.com breaks the boundaries of traditional e-commerce sites and is a place where digital lifestyles come alive. As a company at the crossroads of technology and entertainment, Sony is well-positioned to redefine e-commerce for the connected future."" The public launch of SonyStyle.com is being supported by a television advertising campaign developed by Young & Rubicam Advertising of New York, with offline media buying and planning duties being handled by The Digital Edge of New York. An online marketing campaign - including creative development and media buying and planning - is being handled by ORB, Inc. of New York. The campaign is scheduled to break on November 21 on national cable networks, and in New York, San Francisco, Washington D.C., Los Angeles and San Diego as well as online. The focus of the campaign is to introduce consumers to SonyStyle.com in time for the holiday shopping season through an irreverent concept centered around the mock abduction of a shopping mall Santa Claus. Consumers are encouraged to help free Santa by visiting a Web site at WeHaveSanta.com, and by shopping at SonyStyle.com, which also gives them a chance to win a $10,000 shopping spree.
