RAVISENT Licenses All-Software DTV Technology To Digital Stream

World-Wide Licensing Agreement Enables Digital STREAM To Offer Cinemaster DTV

27-Dec-00

RAVISENT Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: RVST), a provider of digital audio and video software solutions, announced a licensing agreement with Digital STREAM Technology, Inc. Digital STREAM is licensing CineMasterô DTV, the first commercially available all-software DTV solution, enabling PC OEMs and TV board manufacturers around the world to deliver to consumers the ideal, high-quality platform for true HDTV. RAVISENT's CineMaster DTV all-software solution supports all 18 ATSC formats (predominate in North America) as well as DVB formats (which is widely popular in Europe). CineMaster DTV shows full-frame rate video with no frame drops in amazing clarity and detail at video formats up to 720p (1280 x 720 progressive @60fps) and 1080i (1920 x 1080 interlaced @30fps) on a 600MHz PentiumÆ III. ""CineMaster DTV represents a major breakthrough in digital television technology - the world's first all-software DTV decoder commercially available today,"" said Alan McCann, General Manager of the Digital Media Group for RAVISENT. ""We have delivered a technology that allows PC OEMs and board manufacturers to leverage our technology with their hardware to deliver the best in DTV."" ""As one of the leaders in digital streaming technology, we needed a robust DTV technology that could easily support our business needs,"" said Tay Lee, CEO of Digital STREAM. ""We chose RAVISENT's CineMaster DTV software because of the broad functionality that the product offers."" CineMaster DTV includes CineMaster Broadcast Stream Manager technology, which provides a DirectShow 2.0 compliant MPEG-2 transport demultiplexer that supports all ATSC and DVB compliant forms of video, audio and data. The Broadcast Stream Manager provides a significant advantage over simple transport demultiplexing with its error handling, error recovery and error concealment features, PSI table knowledge, and by providing proxy tuning at the program level and of the tuner itself. Based on RAVISENT's award-winning CineMaster MPEG-2 decoder technology, CineMaster DTV incorporates newly-developed, advanced proprietary algorithms enabling the decoding and playback of all 18 digital television formats specified by the Advanced Television Standards Committee (ATSC), including all the so-called high definition television (HDTV) formats. CineMaster DTV also incorporates proprietary software technology for full transport de-multiplexing with enhanced stream management for audio/video pacing and buffers management. The eighteen ATSC formats were adopted in 1996 by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as the standards for digital television in the U.S.A. A number of television stations throughout the U.S. already broadcast digital broadcast signals. All FCC- licensed stations are required to completely convert to digital television broadcasting by 2006. For more information about Digital STREAM Technology, Inc., visit www.dstreamtech.com.
