PlanetwebÆ, a leader in open systems software solutions for the Internet appliance market, has been selected by ZoranÆ Corporation (NASDAQ: ZRAN) to demonstrate the Internet connectivity of Zoran's new VaddisÆ V Advanced DVD Multimedia Processor for enabling consumer devices that support DVD-Video playback, the DVD-Audio standard and Web browsing. Planetweb and Zoran will be demonstrating their products at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, January 6-9, 2001 in booth numbers 5635 and M-31247, respectively. Zoran has been working with Planetweb and their advanced Internet software to deliver Internet-enabled DVD on the Vaddis V platform. Web browsing on the Vaddis V takes advantage of the embedded CPU and hardware accelerators, including an on-chip graphics accelerator and 135 MIPS DSP. An embedded hardware graphics accelerator off-loads the CPU for responsive Web browsing. DSP acceleration for JPEG decoding enables digital image browsing applications enhanced with the Planetweb browser. The Vaddis V has integrated hardware de-flicker filtering for optimal presentation of text and Web user interfaces on a television screen. ""Zoran's Vaddis V processor is an excellent chip for running Planetweb's Internet software. It provides the acceleration necessary for high-quality Web content on a consumer electronics platform,"" said Ken Soohoo, President and CEO of Planetweb. By integrating Planetweb's small footprint software with our Vaddis V processor, we enable new Internet-connected DVD products while maintaining a cost effective solution. Our customers can offer a host of new applications taking advantage of the integration of digital audio and digital imaging capabilities in the DVD platform,"" said Ram Ofir, Director of Marketing at Zoran. Planetweb fundamentally changes the way people use their television and other home electronic devices by using the Internet and its related technology with clarity, accessibility and simplicity. Planetweb's embedded software offers consumers a complete Internet and hybrid DVD solution using their ISP of choice. Planetweb's browser technology and Zoran's new Vaddis V solution-on-a-chip are the building blocks that enable OEMs to create next generation consumer DVD products. Consumers will have the ability to view high quality DVDs with embedded hybrid Web content, customize personal Web page content and attend Web-based media events. Online shoppers will be able to receive highly specialized, individually targeted offers and product information based solely on their particular needs and interests. The Planetweb-compatible Vaddis V is currently available in sample quantities with mass production parts available in the second quarter of 2001.
