Sage Inc. (NASDAQ: SAGI), a leading provider of digital display processors for consumer technology and PC-display products, announced that Xiamen Overseas Chinese Electronic Co. Ltd. (XOCECO), a major Chinese electronics manufacturer, and Skyworth Group Company, a leader in consumer electronics, network and communication products, have incorporated the FLI family of display processors into their next generation progressive scan TVs. By implementing Sage technology, XOCECO and Skyworth are able to create significant video enhancements to their digitally enhanced TVs by enabling high quality video at reduced systems costs. Following on the heels of the opening of its new China office, XECECO and Skyworthís selection of the FLI display processors demonstrates Sageís traction in the growing Chinese consumer electronics market.Chinaís consumer electronics market provides a fast-growing market segment for Sage, with an estimated growth from 36 million color TVs manufactured in 2000 to 45 million units in 2004 (source: Gartner Dataquest). XOCECO is a major Chinese electronics manufacturer, with annual sales revenue of more than $3 billion and has founded seven subsidiaries, including a publicly listed company. Skyworth is one of Chinaís top television manufacturers, producing over 3.5 million TVs per year. Its export volume has been in the industryís top ranks for years. XOCECO incorporated the FLI2200 into its 32-inch progressive scan, HD-ready TV set (HT-3281B), which offers sharp images, no flicker and wide viewing angles. The monitor also boasts four-line comb filtering, motion compensation and picture-in-picture (PIP). Interlaced video is converted to enhanced progressive-scan video via the Sage FLI2200 display processor.""After evaluating and comparing Sageís FLI2200 with several other processors, we selected the Sage chip for XOCECOís next generation of digitally-enhanced HD-ready TV,"" said Dr. Su Zhongren, Executive Vice President of XOCECO Ltd. ""The FLI2200ís industry-first Diagonal Correlational Deinterlacing (DCDiô) and motion adaptive cross color suppression expand our televisions' feature set, improve the quality of the image and give superior performance to our product.""Skyworth incorporates the FLI processor into its 29-inch progressive scan flat screen TV (2982) with easy-to-use on-screen display controls. The progressive scan television is targeted at markets in China, Southeast Asia and North America.""We chose the Sage FLI family for a number of reasons,"" said Li Hongan, General Manager of the Skyworth R&D Center. ""Not only does it provide outstanding video quality at a low cost, but as a single-chip processor, it also offers motion adaptive de-interlacing and film mode that ensure proper handling of film material. The Sage FLI display processors represent tremendous value for us. We're happy to incorporate them into our next generation product design.""""We are extremely pleased that XOCECO and Skyworth selected Sageís FLI2200 family products to power their progressive scan color TVs for release in the upcoming consumer buying season,'' said Dr. Nikhil Balram , Sageís Vice President and General Manager of Consumer Products. ""We see significant interest in progressive scan TVs and DVD players in China, and are currently building a strong foundation with a number of key players as part of our commitment to developing China into one of our most important markets,"" adds Dr. Balram. ""We are delighted to see Sage display processors selected by the largest consumer electronics manufacturers worldwide, including in China.""The FLI2200 is the worldís first 10-bit single-chip motion adaptive de-interlacer that incorporates recently acquired Faroudja Laboratoriesí Emmy AwardÆ-winning de-interlacing and post-processing algorithms to convert standard interlaced video signals into progressive scan signals. The FLI2200 boasts a number of industry-first features including proprietary Diagonal Correlational Deinterlacing (DCDi). This per-pixel edge-adaptive interpolation prevents the appearance of staircasing or jaggies that are otherwise highly visible along every edge when motion video (such as sports or music videos) is de-interlaced using other means of interpolation. DCDi does not require a frame buffer, hence can be used as the primary means of de-interlacing for a low cost memory-less configuration of the FLI2200. Other advanced performance capabilities include motion adaptive de-interlacing with optimal filtering on a per pixel basis, film mode for proper handling of 3:2 and 2:2 pull-down, bad edit detection/correction and motion-adaptive cross-color suppression.A demonstration of XOCECOís and Skyworthís new progressive scan TVs will be showcased at the International CES.The XOCECO HT-3281B is currently sampling and will be available in volume quantities in April this year. The Skyworth 2982 is currently a prototype and will move into mass production later this year. For more information about XOCECO, visit www.xoceco.com.cn.
