TERK Technologies announced that they have signed a joint development agreement with XM Satellite Radio to develop, manufacture and distribute XM retail antennas to receive digital satellite radio signals in the car and home. TERK Technologies takes another giant step forward in its continuing endeavor to deliver technology driven products. XM Satellite Radio is developing a new band of all-digital radio comprised of 100 national channels of digital quality music, news, sports, talk, comedy and children's programming. A subscription service similar to satellite television, consumers will require specifically engineered antennas to receive these all-digital radio signals whether they are on the road or at home. TERK Technologies, renowned for its award-winning antenna technology, engineering and design, under this new agreement, will partner with XM to develop, design, manufacture, and market various XM retail products including a line of car and home antennas. ""TERK has been expanding its role in the digital satellite category and sees XM radio as a vital consumer product for the future,"" states TERK CEO Neil Terk. ""With satellite television consumers came to expect expanded choices in their viewing options. XM radio will create the same demand radio, both on-the-road listening and at home. XM and TERK branded products will be designed to satisfy an emerging need in todayís consumer market by providing significantly improved radio quality which consumers will come to expect, at prices they can afford."" ""As satellite radio enters the market, consumer demand for digital satellite radio reception products for the car and home will explode. We intend to support TERK with the necessary technology as well as engineering and technical support to design products to meet this demand. We are extremely excited that through the agreement with TERK, XM Radio will be able to offer a wide selection of antenna solutions to our retail distribution partners,"" said XMís Senior Vice Presdient, Sales and Marketing Steve Cook. In 2001, TERK will design, manufacture and market aftermarket XM antennas for a variety of digital satellite radio reception scenarios. These include car radio compatible antennas that can be mounted on a vehicleís rear or side window without any drilling and retrofit to different vehicle body types and applications including sedans, wagons/SUVs, hatchback vehicles and convertible body styles. TERK will also produce XM antenna versions for use with long-haul trucking, marine, RV and off-road vehicle applications. For the home or fixed placement environment, TERK will manufacture indoor and outdoor XM antennas including an antenna for use while attached to a small satellite television antenna. Committed to bringing the consumer home entertainment solutions, TERK will create an indoor distribution system to allow consumers to remotely connect a TERK/XM antenna and a home/portable XM radio either wirelessly or by using existing home wiring. Marketed through its current channels of distribution including all major retailers throughout the United States, TERK and XM have jointly targeted the second half of 2001 for the launch of these products.
