12-Feb-01

Philips Consumer Electronics unveiled its new line of projection televisions at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES), providing visitors with a look at the latest in home cinema viewing from the consumer electronics giant. The new line includes 50, 55, 60 and 64-inch televisions, as well as a new size for Philips, the 43-inch table-top projection television (43P8341) that provides consumers a powerful home theatre package, perfect for those desiring big screen performance and cinema enjoyment but without the space required for a big screen. The 43P8341 features a sleek titanium finish cabinet design and a smaller footprint than most 36 and 32-inch direct view (CRT) televisions on the market. This new line includes a video processing feature which automatically adjusts the televisionís picture setting, based on the quality of the content source (satellite, cable, DVD-Video player, VCR etc.), a digital comb filter, component video inputs and a 20-watt audio system including surround sound. ""Projection television has grown exponentially in popularity as consumers recognize the incredible cinema-like picture and viewing quality now available for the home,"" said Des Power, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Television, Philips Consumer Electronics, North America. ""The creation of the 43-inch addresses the growing market of small screen projection televisions, which provide the same superior projection image and high design as their larger counterparts, but donít require the space of a recreation or great room."" This new projection TV line also includes a universal remote that features codes for most DVD, SAT and VCR products on the market. In addition, the televisions include input jacks located on the side of the televisions for camcorder or other device connection. A built-in contrast shield protects the screen from scratches and enhances the picture contrast to maximize visual enjoyment. The 43P8341 will be available in May of 2001 for $1,599 and the 50, 55, 60 and 64-inch modes will all be available in June for $1,699, $1,899, $2,099 and $2,299, respectively.
