Philips New HDTV Monitors Offer Something For Everyone With A Variety Of Viewing Options

Philips Consumer Electronics displayed its latest series of 55 and 60-inch projection television HDTV monitors at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES), offering consumers the option of enjoying a home theatre in either 4:3 or 16:9 display formats. ""As part of Philips ongoing effort to offer the most complete line of products to our customers, we are introducing our new 55-inch and 60-inch digital projection televisions in two different formats,"" said Des Power, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Television, Philips Consumer Electronics, North America. ""Now home theatre enthusiasts, from the novice to the most advanced, have the ultimate selection of projection HDTV monitors to choose from, whatever their preference may be."" Widescreen Choices Philips Rear Projection 55-inch (55PP9701) and 60-inch (60PP9701) widescreen HDTV monitors are comprised of a high definition display that can support the 1080i high definition format when connected to a digital set-top box or another high definition source. These models offer a sharp picture, excellent sound and a multitude of home theatre convenience features. Currently available with a suggested retail price of $4,799 and $5,299, the 55 and the 60-inch include video features that maximize picture quality, Philips PixelMaxô system which produces more than 1.6 million pixels and incorporates cutting-edge optical technology, first surface mirrors, advanced scan velocity modulation (SVM) and three-line digital comb filters. For further picture enhancement, these televisions also include Philipsí exclusive Automatic Phosphor Aging Compensation (APAC), which minimizes the permanent after-images that can result when a non-moving picture is left on the screen for an extended time. In addition, Philips HDTV rear projection monitors utilize the Genesisô line doubler with 3:2 pull-down. Four widescreen format conversion modes maximize viewing options when the incoming signal format does not match the displayís widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9. In addition to outstanding picture performance, the 55 and 60-inch televisions also feature multiple connections. Side and rear connection panels make it easy to connect peripheral home theatre equipment including DVD-Video players, digital set-top boxes, computers and audio equipment. These projection TVs include two HD inputs for maximum flexibility and upgradability. 4:3 Offerings In addition to the two widescreen rear projection HDTV monitors, Philips also is introducing two 4:3 rear projection HDTV monitors in May 2001, the 55PP9401 ($2,799) and 60PP9401($2,999). These televisions support 1080i high definition display and feature 3D Y/C comb filters, first surface mirrors, dual component video inputs and selectable 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio. They also include Philips Auto IntelliSense Focusô, which automatically converges the television for optimum clarity.
