Philips announced the introduction of the first multichannel Super Audio CD player (SACD1000) at the Consumer Electronics Show. This six-channel player provides consumers the ability to surround themselves with the most lifelike audio reproduction available to date. Available this month for $1,999, the SACD1000 also includes DVD-Video, VCD and audio CD functionality, is compatible with many audio and video formats, including DSD, PCM, MPEG-2, DolbyÆ Digital and DTSÆ Digital Surround, and supports CD-R and CD-RW playback. By developing the worldís first multichannel SACD player with full Direct Stream Digital resolution on all six channels, Philips brings the audio enthusiast into the center of a three-dimensional listening experience. It uses the latest DSD (Direct Stream Digital) technology to deliver superior sound reproduction quality, with the ability to render all the nuances of a live performance. Using a sampling frequency 64 times higher than that of CD, Super Audio CD offers an extremely pure and natural sound.
