Philips Consumer Electronics introduced its new line of DVD-Video players with progressive scan at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The DVD953 single-deck DVD player and the DVD972C five-disc changer will be Philipsí first DVD-Video players to utilize progressive scan technology. Both models offer 3:2 and 2:2 pull-down capability to optimize film-based content for digital video - resulting in a smoother, sharper picture image, with high resolution and no motion artifacts. In addition, Philips unveiled the DVD Q50, combining an ultra-slim, stylish, aluminum design and a state-of-the-art progressive scan system with a sophisticated Motion Correction System (DCDiô chip by Faroudja), which optimizes and corrects for artifacts, resulting in razor-sharp picture performance. Progressive scan output, 54MHz/12-bit video processing, 192kHz/24-bit audio and Digital Crystal Clearô also are included in the DVD Q50.The DVD953 and DVD972C feature playback of DVD-Video, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, VCD, SVCD and MP3 CDs. In order to reduce visual artifacts, both models incorporate four operational modes - automatic, frame, field and ""smart."" In addition, both players feature integrated DolbyÆ Digital decoding and are HDCDÆ-compatible. The DVD972C provides a five-disc changer that allows the viewer to watch multiple discs without having to move a muscle.
