Britainís B&W Loudspeakers, for more than 35 years a world leader in loudspeakers for music and home theatre systems, has unveiled its latest family, the CM Series. The new range includes the bookshelf/stand-mount CM 2, the floor-standing CM 4 and the center channel-specific CM C, all designed specifically with the interior design-conscious audio/home theatre enthusiast in mind. By combining exclusive technologies with stylish good looks, the new CM Series makes fully B&W-level reproduction available to even the most design-conscious interiors. At B&W, we recognize that for many customers - perhaps even most - an ideal loudspeaker not only requires unparalleled sound quality, it must exhibit esthetically-pleasing styling, and elegant construction and finish, says B&W Executive Vice President Chris Browder. Each home is a unique environment, Browder continues, and the new CM Series models were designed to enhance and complement virtually any decor.Nautilus HeritageThe CM Series lineup comprises three refined models, all exploiting key technologies derived from the award-winning, universally acclaimed Nautilus 800 Series. All three incorporate the unique Nautilus system of ""loading"" the tweeter via an internal, precisely tapered tube. With virtually complete absorption of unwanted radiation from the rear of the dome diaphragm, the result is demonstrably more transparent, naturally detailed sound. All three new CM designs further employ B&Wís proprietary FlowPortô enclosure venting, which serves to reduce turbulence noise at their rear-firing cabinet ports for deep, tight, distortion-free bass. The FlowPortís golf ball-like surface dimpling smoothes laminar airflow - the same concept that encourages golf balls to fly further eliminates audible ""chuffing"" and other distortions that plague the vast majority of all other vented loudspeakers. The new CM Seriesí 1-inch alloy dome tweeter is the latest evolution of a long-standing B&W technology, capable of extraordinarily extended, detailed high frequency output. The rangeís bass/midrange cones exploit another well-known B&W hallmark, woven Kevlarô, a unique low mass/high strength material. By dramatically reducing unwanted diaphragm vibrations this yields cleaner, more focused sound and a measurable, audible advantage with distortion-free dynamic potential. The floor-standing, two-and-a-half-way CM 4 incorporates a second, aluminum cone bass-only driver that is engineered for tremendous rigidity and undeformed pistonic motion at even the most severe driving levels, through the lowest octaves of reproduced sound. The compact, two-way CM 2 can be mounted either on a shelf or stand, ideal for those with space constraints or when used in a multichannel array, along with the CM 4 as a surround channel unit and the CM C center channel model. Designed for larger rooms, the CM 4 is a slim, floor-standing model with substantially extended deep bass and a potential for very high output levels. The CM C is fully magnetically-shielded, eliminating image distortion in CRT TVs regardless of proximity, while its low-profile, dual 5.5-inch mid/woofer layout permits set-top placement to complete an elegantly balanced home theatre setup. The CM FinishesEach member of the new B&W CM Series is available in a choice of two classic, real wood veneers, Maple and Rosenut, both hand-finished to unbending European standards of fine furniture craftsmanship. Throughout the CM series, B&W employs top-grade materials both in cabinet construction and finish, and in electro-acoustic systems, to ensure standard-setting quality among loudspeakers of this class.Manufacturerís suggested retail prices: CM 2, $900 per pair CM 4, $1500 per pairCM C, $550 eachAll models in the new CM Series are now available. For more information, visit www.bwspeakers.com.
