DolbyĆ's Consumer Division Reorganizes

Hockenbrock And Vernon To Vice President

As of January 2001, DolbyĆ Laboratories' Consumer Division has been reorganized into three major groups of operations, technology, and intellectual property, it was announced by Senior Vice President and General Manager Ed Schummer. As part of this reorganization, Richard Hockenbrock has been promoted to Vice President, Licensing Operations, and now heads the Operations Group. Mr. Hockenbrock's new responsibilities encompass all day-to-day logistics and business interactions with Dolby's licensees, including the company's extensive testing and quality control programs and the expansion of communications and training with existing and potential licensees. In addition, Steve Vernon joins the Consumer Division as Vice President, Licensing Technology, and heads the Technology Group. In this new capacity, Steve is responsible for all strategic technology aspects for the division, whether the technology is developed in-house or licensed from a third party. This covers all applications areas, including Consumer Electronics, the PC business area, as well as the Music Delivery Initiative. To support the activities of the Technology and the Operations Groups, Steve is also responsible for the Technology Development team. Mr. Schummer continues to oversee the division's Intellectual Property Group. Before joining Dolby in 1998, Mr. Hockenbrock served as General Manager of Tektronix's Intellectual Property & Display divisions. He has also headed display research and development at Zenith Electronics and worked in General Electric's Television Business Division. Mr. Hockenbrock holds a B.S. in Engineering Technology from Southern Illinois University, an M.S. in Engineering Administration from Syracuse University, and an M.B.A. from the University of Oregon. Steve Vernon has been with Dolby Laboratories since 1991. He previously worked in Dolby's R&D department and was part of the development teams for several perceptual coding systems, including Dolby Digital and Dolby E. Mr. Vernon received a B.S.E.E. from the University of Southern California, and an M.S.E.E. from Stanford University.
