Toshiba Leads The Way In Digital Convergence With New Portable Digital Products At The 2001 CES

Toshiba, a leading developer of advanced digital technologies, expanded its line of mobile audio/video products at the 2001 CES with the introduction of two additional portable digital products, the SDP1500 DVD-Video player and the MEA210 personal digital audio player. On-the-Go Movie Watching With The Industry's Largest Portable Screen At the 2001 CES, Toshiba is offering consumers more choice in DVD entertainment with the addition of its second portable DVD player, the Model SDP1500. A full-featured portable player, the SDP1500 features an eight-inch widescreen active matrix display, the industry's largest-ever screen in the portable DVD category, The SDP1500 includes a host of advanced technologies for exceptional picture performance, including a 10-bit 27MHz video DAC and ColorStream component video output. It provides total multi-disc versatility, including DVD-Video, DVD-R, CD audio, Video CD, CD-R and CD-RW playback capability. The SDP1500 is ultra-portable, with a flip-up LCD panel that makes it easy and convenient to view high-quality DVD movies and Video CDs anywhere, anytime. The Active Matrix TFT display delivers highly detailed, bright pictures with remarkable color resolution, purity and detail. A supplied lithium ion battery lets viewers enjoy a full three hours of uninterrupted movie entertainment. An optional extended battery supplies an additional six hours of viewing time. The SDP1500 measures 1.15 inches high, 6.30 inches deep and 8.27 inches wide and weighs just 1.75 pounds minus the supplied lithium ion battery. Viewers can enjoy DVD movies anywhere via the built-in active matrix LCD display and reflex style stereo speakers, or they may connect the player to a compatible display device for large-screen entertainment. A full complement of audio and video outputs makes it quick and easy to connect the SDP1500 to virtually any existing home entertainment system. In addition to its ColorStreamÆ component video output, the SDP1500 features audio and video mini-plug outputs, a standard S-Video output, plus digital audio output capability. The SDP1500 features built-in reflex style stereo speakers for use as a standalone playback device, as well as two headphone jacks with volume control for shared viewing. Consistent with Toshiba's full-sized DVD players, the SDP1500 features DolbyÆ Digital and DTSÆ Digital Surroundô compatibility. Additionally, the SDP1500 features a picture zoom, enabling viewers to select areas of the picture they wish to see more closely and magnify them by a power of four - another especially useful feature for small-screen viewing enjoyment. The Model SDP1500 joins Toshiba's recently introduced Model SDP1000 portable DVD-Video player, the industry's first-ever portable DVD unit to incorporate the company's critically acclaimed ColorStream PROô progressive scan technology. The SDP1500 will be available in April 2001 at a suggested retail price of $1199.99. Ultra-Compact Digital Audio Player For The New Music Generation With last summer's introduction of the Model MEA110 portable digital audio player, the industry's first digital audio player to include SD memory card technology, Toshiba signaled its intention to define and lead the growing portable digital audio market. At the 2001 CES, the company reaffirmed that commitment with the introduction of its second digital audio player, the MEA210. Equipped with 32MB of internal flash memory, this stylish, ultra-portable device measures just 2 x 2 x 0.5 inches (WHD) and allows consumers to record and playback 40 minutes of 96kbps, AAC-encoded digital audio. A built-in SD memory card slot allows the potential for an additional 80 minutes of digital audio playback (with a 64MB SD card). Weighing just 1.5 ounces with battery, the SDMI-compliant MEA210 is compatible with AAC and MP3 formats, Windows Media Audio will also be supported by a future software update. The MEA210 connects to Windows 98-based PCs and laptops via a USB interface and also supports Windows ME and Windows 2000 software. The supplied music management software, Toshiba Audio Manager Version 2.0, makes it fast and easy to download favorite tunes and playlists. A high-contrast LCD window displays title information, as well as operating mode status. The MEA210 comes equipped with stereo headphones, one AAA alkaline battery, a USB cable and Toshiba Audio Manager application software.
